26 years ago right about now was the most epic Wiz/Ekster/Legro disrobing since 1953.

My earliest weather memory (was five at the time) and probably the incubus of my lifelong weather obsession. My family were on the way back to New Haven on I-95 when the storm hit. I still remember how green-black the sky was and how vividly blue the lightning. When we neared Lake Saltonstall there was a whole stand of pine trees that had just been sheared off halfway up. Must've been a microburst or something because it wasn't near the tornado's track. Anyway, didn't see further damage until we got off I-91 in Hamden. We couldn't get home via the usual route due to downed trees and lines on all the roads and section of roofing in the road. Took a long long time to get home and I distinctly remember my father looking around in disbelief and saying something to the effect of: "What the hell is going on?" My house had a sixty foot pine down in the yard and hail had knocked out two of my bedroom windows. My grandmother later came over and gave me a pair of baseball size hailstones that she'd retrieved from the yard and thrown in her freezer. Also, tin and roofing materials from the Albertus Magnus gym roof was strewn in the trees of East Rock Park for years and years after that storm.

At that time, I used to go to a play group once or twice a week with some neighborhood kids at a house that was in the tornado's path. My friend's mother was from Illinois and later recounted that as soon as she saw the green-brown sky she took her son straight to the basement. From then on he was terrified of thunderstorms and would run downstairs for years at the first rumble. My godmother's house was at the edge of the path and suffered roof damage, but several houses just up the street were completely destroyed. In fact, there is still an oak tree on that street that has a chunk of slate embedded in its trunk from the twister. Doubt I'll ever see another storm like that one in my life, but am happy I was old enough to remember it!

I remember that day. At least I think it's the same day....it was definitely that summer and I don't think I've seen anything quite like that since. Things got crazy really fast, suddenly it was dark as night, I could hear hail and debris hitting the windows and the outside of the house. Water started leaking in around one of our window air conditioners. The emergency broadcast system came on with a tornado warning. A funnel was reported in Arlington and we lived Malden at the time. My mother was freaking out about the water coming in near the air conditioner and wanted me to help her with that. I remember telling her "screw the air conditioner, lets get the cats and go down to the basement", then the air conditioner fell into the room and she took my advice.

When we came out the street was flooding and there were old newspapers and trash stuck to the side of our house. A neighbour 2 doors down had a tree crushing their car and the front of their house. It was a couple of years before it looked normal again. A couple of streets over looked perfectly fine. I think we had a microburst or something but I'll never know.

Would you even say that bodies fell through the roof?

Sh*t pattern for storms. Heat ridge in high plains which means hope for a weak fropa with skinny CAPE crap, or warm front and a few flashes. Meh.

Yup. Too bad given those nice EML plumes riding over the ridge into the upper midwest over the next 7 days.

The GFS does advertise some EML working in next weekend and beginning of next week.  Shear is absolute garbage and with 500mb heights approaching or slightly exceeding the 588dm threshold we'll be pretty damn capped.  But with any s/w moving aloft if anything can pop in the environmental conditions they could run the risk for microbursts

Yup I noticed that as well next Sunday. Very nice EML signal there. Still a ways out but we'll see.

Certainly a long ways out but what has my interest is a potential piece of s/w energy moving somewhere through New England overnight Sunday into Monday.  Beginning Sunday we have rising heights with an EML plume moving overhead.  As the day progresses we do get some height falls in response to a weak s/w trough which approaches.

An overnight severe threat would be pretty fun and we are nearing the time of year when that can become a possibility here, especially with the pattern projected.

I know. Some sick Instability near ORD tomorrow.

We were pulling up forecast soundings with SBCAPE of 9000-10000 in IA/IL for tomorrow...lol. Not only is it prime evapotranspiration time, it's been wet as all get out, and the models are responding with the raw output projecting a fairly large area of 80 degree dewpoints underneath steep lapse rates.

I wonder if that's overdone though? MOS looked a little more tempered, but still very unstable even with dews near 73-75 or so. If a few cells get going...look out.

Normally I'd say yes, but if there was ever a time for fairly widespread dews of 80, it would be now. The NAM has been handling dewpoints very well in the upper Midwest today.

Yeah I just took a look at the meso-analysis. Unreal. Nice pocket of cold at 500 too in MN. Man I would die for that. The cell near Fergus Falls has to have soccer balls..lol.
