Guest Pamela
Some of the buildings going up lately are completely unimaginative. I had a couple friends go into architecture and the designs they were able to come up in high school in their sleep were 100 times better than these glass boxes that are passing for design these days. Your evaluation is entirely subjective and since you are not a well known aesthete or authority on architecture your opinions on this matter should be afforded little if any weight.... bluewave
another #'s poster who likes snow The snow lovers are on a winning streak for the 2000's so far with the last 11 of 15 years at or above normal seasonal snowfall for NYC. The only duds in the last 15 years were 01-02, 06-07, 07-08, and 11-12. The previous 15 winters saw 10 below normal seasons out of 15.

jm1220
RAIN here today, finally. A station on the SE corner of downtown Austin has 2.61" of rain today, but it's been spotty. Where I am is probably only at around a quarter of an inch.

Guest Pamela
Screw 38 lets go for the big guns and go for 1635. Those re-creations from shortly after the Dark Ages (though with the witch trials still 57 years into the future, the use of the word *after* may not be apt) are a rather iffy business. The interesting thing about the 2000's so far is that the winters have seen a cooling trend with record snow while all other seasons have been warming. SnoSki14
Eventually I assume the warmth will win out and winter will join the other seasons in an upward swing. The blocking has been phenomenal; it feels like we've been setting records every year whether it be the AO, NAO, or EPO region.
bluewave
all that blocking. even the snowless 11/12 winter had major blocking but we got hosed by the ak vortex We have done great with either -EPO/+PNA/-AO/-NAO blocking winters years. The 4 duds since 2001 featured the Alaskan Vortex +EPO dominating the pattern with mild Pacific air.
IsentropicLift
Not weather related but stay off of the NY State Thruway. All lanes closed Southbound with a fatal accident at exit 15. (Airmont Rd in Suffern). A second fatal accident at Rt. 17 in Mahwah also causing major delays. Stay off Rt 287 North of the Rt 208 split. Per NJ511.org delay is 70 minutes from there to the NYS line.
