mitchnick
mods, I wanted to put this somewhere for all to enjoy its today's guidance from the CFS, albeit not from tonight's runs anyway, don't look now,but the CFS just went pretty cold for FEB, which is the first time it has showed cold like this in the US on any run since summer top map are 2m anomaly temps and bottom map are 850 anomaly temps

Anyway, how did the 00Z NAM fare compared to the 12Z? I am sorry I don't have time too look at imagery...

Sickman
I split this from the 0z thread, to keep things flowing better there.
Guest someguy
well the shift in the CFS is a bit of a surprise for some all along I have argued/ assumed against FEB being warm or torch like b/c IMO the La NIna will have reached weak La Nina levels by then
mitchnick
Too bad the CFS couldn't get a forecast correct for a month in the past let alone the future. but it did here's forecast from 1st week of NOV from the archives pretty cold DEC, ehh? http://www.cpc.ncep....s3/usT2mMon.gif
2010 extreme
It may be over doing the cold do to the lack of blocking.
nzucker
It may be over doing the cold do to the lack of blocking. It looks like it shows a pretty decent block over AK which leaves the CONUS cooler than normal if it happens.
Jebman
I am going to get to enjoy three solid months of decently cold jebwalks. And to think that all this time I was LAMENTING the La Nina!! This La Nina is the best thing that has happened to the eastern CONUS since Winter 2009-2010. I am so happy I could cry!!! WOW!! There are going to be thousands of water main breaks in DCA this winter!! Boy am I gonna enjoy performing another 2004-styled Ice Jebwalk in Washington DC!!! Everyone gets treated to a FREE performance!!!! I am not only the only man who can dig out Dale City all by himself using only a steel construction shovel, but I am the only man who is even remotely capable of performing a decent Ice Jebwalk without falling on his arse. This is going to be an EPIC winter in the East!!! With all this cold air around - This could be the SECOND WINTER IN A ROW that Washington DC and Northern VA get far more snow than does the vaunted SNE or NE ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!! Hey weathafella and all of you northern snow geese - You better move south to DCA if you ever want to see snow LOL!!!!! All that frigid air coming down courtesy of the Block sets up a pattern where the Boundary remains FAR south - Right across the Mid Atlantic - Which just happens to be THE NEW SNE !!!!!! HELL YEAH BABY!!!!!!!!! Bring It The Hell ON!!!!!!!!!!!

2010 extreme
Yes, but not the highly desired Greenland block. It looks like it shows a pretty decent block over AK which leaves the CONUS cooler than normal if it happens.

aldie 22
January looks quite blocky. Do you think it is out of the question to squeeze out negative departures for all three months for parts of the East? Seems like that would be really unusual considering the strength of the Nina.
