Once in a while Chrome says it can't find the board. I figured maybe it was a chrome thing but I tried other browsers and they give me the same error from time to time. This test was also not performed on the same internet connection as to eliminate it as a possible cause of the error. Anyone know why it's shoiwng this?

It's doing it in Safari, too -- including this thread. I have to reload a time or two, then the page loads.

Wasn't an issue for me until today.

I've had trouble yesterday and today. I tired changing the DNS to the Google public DNS on my MacBook but no good (Firefox and Safari). My iPhone is off and on. So I dug out an old Dell (Wnidows XP) and set it up with the Google DNS and .. here I am. So far so good for about 2 hours. All on the same ISP (AT &T). Weird. Guess it will take some time to work all the kinks out.

Just letting you guys know I checked my windows firewall and chrome wasn't listed. I added Chrome to the list of programs that don't get restricted and I haven't had an error since which is for about 30 minutes. Before I would see the error about once every couple minutes.

For all we know Windows did one of their auto updates and broke something. Though we got people with Macs saying they have issues as well. I'll report back if the problem comes back.

Just happened to me too...just go to your hosts file in Windows/System32 and add the following lines:

208.86.190.151 www.americanwx.com

208.86.190.151 americanwx.com

and everything should be fine. On Unix like OSes, the file to edit is resolv.conf (usually inside /etc)

If you receive a message telling you that you don't have permissions to edit the hosts file:

If it's Vista, and you are not sure if you have an administrator account (but not the Administrator account), you can circumvent this by opening Notepad as an administrator (right click on the Notepad icon and select "Execute as an administrator")...then you can edit and save it.

Either way it will fix itself eventually. What usually happens in these cases is that the DNS servers from your ISP update from different sources, and with relatively new associations domains->IPs one source might contain the latest association, while other might not...so they overwrite each other (we are talking many sources here), so it might work sometimes and then it won't, then it will, etc. It usually settles in less than 48hrs, but might take 3-4 days.

Other possible solution:

You can try and change your DNS servers. If you have the network monitors (or monitor if it's wireless) in the taskbar near the clock, right click the icon and select Status (I think, I'm looking at a Spanish version of Windows). When the popup window opens press the Properties button. Another window will pop, there's a label that will read something like "This connection uses the following elements" ...select the Internet protocol (TCP/IP) and press the Properties button. In the General tab of the screen, in the DNS section (2nd one) change the radio button from "Automatically obtain the DNS address" to "Manually enter the DNS adresses" or something like that. Enter the following addresses: 208.67.222.222

208.67.220.220

Shorthand for all of the above:

Network icon in taskbar close to clock->right click->status-> Properties button-> TCP/IP->Properties button->Manually enter the DNS addresses->208.67.222.222

208.67.220.220

Hopefully you have enough permissions to do the above.

If these kind of issues continue, here's a possible pointer for the admins in charge of the tech stuff

I'm not sure when was the americanwx.com domain name A record created (association of IP with domain name), but if that was over 72-96 hours ago, then there are probably some underlying issues. Doing a WHOIS I see the authoritative name servers for the domain are ns1.americanwx.com and ns2.americanwx.com. This creates a circular dependency, and if a glue is not well configured then domain name resolving issues arise because if americanwx.com can't resolve, then ns1.americanwx.com (and ns2) won't resolve either, hence the circular dependency.

I updated the A record this morning and all is good now, so give it a the 48 hour wait, again. I hate having to change our IP again, but the original setup was getting hammered when people were signing up a few days ago.

I can only connect to this site after putting in new random proxy server settings in my proxy settings in firefox, (as oppose to my default setting - verizon fios)...

It's as if this IP - american weather forums won't let my fios address access the site..

Sounds like the opposite, your connection won't let americanwx be accessed. BTW, our IP is 208.79.202.10
