Accumulating down there? Just as I made my last post it started ripping pretty good. We'll see if it lasts. You're in a better spot than me being south.

Yeah it was struggling at first under decent returns but has really picked up in the last 30mins. Closing in on a half inch.

0z NAM clown map brings 6"+ amounts into northern IL...and a nice enough band just to the north of LAF.

NAM forecast soundings still suggest a nice burst of snow possible, though we'll have to watch as mid level moisture gets stripped with time.  Could lead to more of a rain/freezing rain scenario depending on temps.

It's a quick hitter for us. Not sure we see much -RA/-FZRA. Rather some graupel or s**** seems more likely.

imo, soundings don't really look too favorable for sleet with the possible exception of right at onset.  After that, the column goes below freezing though we'll have to watch for any undermodeled warm layer aloft as usual.  Any liquid would probably be at the tail end.

Right, yeah...I looked at them. Just don't think we'll see much liquid, if any at all. I could be wrong of course. Regardless, most likely the first "frozen" we've seen since March 1. :arrowhead:

My use of "rain" and "liquid" is probably too strong...I'm really thinking more like drizzle/freezing drizzle.

Snow started this afternoon...enough to cover the grass...that then melted some before night...then the real stuff came in and last i checked...maybe 2 or 3 inches depending on where i measure has fallen (as of about 10pm)...talking to some people, looks like there has been quite a few cars off the road in various spots in the area...so very slick.   Radar looks active to the west so i should be able to add more...some place over in MN had 7 inches before 10pm.

Lol 2z RAP with over .70" liquid at DPA

I think there's a good chance that LOT expands the advisory all the way into Chicago and possibly NW IN (can't even rule out some isolated warning amounts in the cwa).  Amounts may be borderline in some areas but there looks to be a period of 1-2" per hour type rates possible and coinciding with morning rush.  The hi-res/other stuff supports it.
