Meh. Most of Feb and Mar has been dry. I think we will handle it.

I was up in the mountains this week, pretty hefty amounts of snow, surprisingly considered how dry it's been. I realize south of NNE in your area in CNE is not as robust, referring more to the stout pack areas.

They aren't even close too. Shattered.

Yeah ORH BDL and PVD all had the 2 through 5 spots within tenths of a degree of each other. The records were all over a degree clear of those. Pretty amazing.

No wonder there's still ice on all the lakes down here. They all had a lake winnipesaukee climate this year.

My cats apparently had one cornered this morning.....I don't think they got it yet.  But they were both intently looking under some shelving this morning.  Can only mean one thing.  They'll probably enjoy it tonight.

my cat had something cornered the other day too, i assumed it was a mouse. when i was able to get a closer look, it was a stink bug

You know severe wx season is coming when you check out the SPC outlooks and see risk categories each day.

A season is approaching for everyone. Winter is coming to Australia.

Our season of glop and gloom is about here.

You need to move. You'd be happier in the plains. Severe and heat....then the occasional wintry event in the fall/winter. Then an early spring. Sounds perfect for you.

Next 10-14 days certainly doesn't look warm or springlike once past tomorrow

The key is the average temp.  If the daily average stays above freezing, things will start blooming by the end of the month.  Seasons in seasons.  We still may push things out but I was just making an observation based on prior years.  4/28 is the latest I've recorded their bloom and it would be neat to see if they can wait till May but we'll see.

I would love too but the spiders there are too big

Thru last week, snow water in Maine was top 25% (some top 10%) from the midcoast to downeast, bottom 25% in much of Northern Maine, middle 50% elsewhere, including the western mts.  As always, the key will be rain.  In 1987, snowpack water in the mts was only a bit AN going into the last week of March, but 5-6 days of +10 to+15 temps followed by 4-7" of 45-50F rain on 3/31-4/1 made for some awesome peak flows.

I can't find the post about dendrite and his pain so I'll post here and hope he sees it.

Sounds like nerve pain to me. All of the tingling and weird pain and spasms. Might have a pinched nerve somewhere. One pinchee nerve in your back can irritate the whole body altogether.

I kinda received terrible but expected news yesterday. I had spinal fusion at c5/6 in October. Had some continuing pain and aggravation all winter. I take Vicodin and Valium as needed (not every day, usually before bed). Also they put me on Gabapentin which is non narcotic and non addictive 3x daily. Believe it or not I experience more relief from the Gabapentin than the Vicodin!

I said I expected bad news and received it.. the fusion or bone graft seems to have failed. Basically looked like it collapsed in the xray. The space that the fusion created when the herniated disc was removed is almost gone. The plate and screws remain in place but the doc simply said it's not a 100% success rate. I asked him "what happen/where the hell did the graft actually go?" He simply had no answer. We are basically in a wait and see period now to decide our next action. It all depends on if symptoms and pain worsen or not. If I can live with the failed graft I will do it. Other option is going in and finding the graft, completely redoing the surgery with plastic graft that is more durable. More complicated this time around with the scar tissue from the last one. Oh yeah, all of this is inches from my spinal cord. Pleasant.... lol

There was a pre surgery period when I wanted to push through the season, continue playing football but multiple docs talked me out of it. Luckily I listened and had the surgery done. Now it's undeniable any continuing and lingering surgeries are covered by Merrimack under NCAA regulations. Also, they work with New England Baptist. One of the best orthopedic centers in the world. It just sucks because I can live fine with this now since I'm young.. but when I get old.. I hope I can walk by then LOL just kidding but sorta not

I can't believe some lakes are still frozen over..jesus...well over a foot of snow left in shaded years here, and STILL some roofs with ice damns.

I have never, ever seen anything like this in April.

Too bad we are getting this 60 hr torch, otherwise they could have remained iced until mid month considering the pattern we are headed into.

I think most of the remaining winter landscapes are wiped out by Saturday pm.

Did you see some of BTV areas records? BTV got 6th coldest, but the other long term sites of 60+ years like MPV and MSS broke their records by like 2F too.

Not even close...MPV's old record for Jan/Feb/Mar was 15.1F in 1971, and this year was 12.9.

Jesus, Jay....I'm so sorry.

I often wonder how savagely old age will treat me with some of the trauma that I have inflicted upon myself in much less noble endeavors.

Absolutely senseless, but it is what it is.

I had the entire B&W Trauma/Cardio unit tell me they were convinced that I wasn't going to come out of there alive.

Had friends tell me they were convinced that I'd end up dead after that because of other personal struggles.

Just keep fighting the good fight.....you're strong, as am I....vigorously weight trained half of my life.

They agreed that made a dramatic difference in my recovery.

Take care of yourself, dude.

the bigger lakes here are still frozen, although the edges are retreating, so I think alot will break up with tomorrow's heavy rainfall and warm temps

First I've heard of a fusion not "taking" - very sorry to hear that.  We're all different, of course, but I can offer a couple anecdotes from my experience that might allay some concerns about the future.  The first is my C-4 fusion (the plate connects C-3 with C-5) at age 65, which appears to be completely successful, at least four years post-op.  The second concerns my hands and fingers that got bunged up in scrimmage-line scrums during HS and at Hopkins.  At age 20 I was having to get up during the night and soak my hands in warm water to lessen the pain, which at times ran up to the elbow, particularly on my right arm.  I wondered if by age 40 I'd retain much use of my hands..  I don't know if working in carpentry helped, but by age 25 I had the aches only in early spring and mid fall, a few weeks each season, and by my 40s even that had faded away.  Now the only issue is the occasions when my right ring and middle fingers snap closed and I have to pull them straight with my other hand, with a brief bit of unpleasantness involved.

Pretty crazy stat..Even with all the snow..still abnormally dry..Mud season cancel?

Eric Fisher ‏@ericfisher  15m

Is it possible to have record snow and be 'dry'? Actually, yes. Most of the Northeast w/below avg precip this year.

I believe it...how often do you remember rain this winter?

Probably about 85% of what fell was snow.....and since the snow has stopped, at least up here, there has hardly been any precipitation.

The fact we had basically no rainers for most of the winter was pretty incredible

How often has that ever happened? No real torches. Truly remarkable

the overall pattern with more progressive type SWFE's and Miller B's and late east based re-developers and generally a positive nao and lack of good blocking. For many of us from the Connecticut River Valley and points west it is the cold that was more anomolous this winter. it was the cold that allowed the snow depths to become anomalous even though the overall seasonal totals out here were above average but not spectacular.
