Typhoon Tip
Wouldn't sweat it, Wiz' ... No matter how close that watch is tauntingly close by, the general synopsis never was intending your area to be a part of it. It would be far in a way worse if the synopsis was, and then a BD came from no where.

powderfreak
You do get them to an extent. During some of the northwest flow events you'll see the MPV ob along with some Johnson and Stowe obs (I think you've noted it a few times too) have some pretty strong gusts in the 30-40 mph range. But they'll just never get to the intensity of the SE downslope winds, likely because of: 1.) Intensity of the LLJ, its not terribly uncommon to see 50-90 knot low level jets out of the SE. I think we were pushing 70 knots today, but luckily for those western slope communities, those strongest winds were above the inversion. You'd be really hard pressed to ever find a NW LLJ over 50 knots. 2.) The orientation of the terrain is much more conducive for the western slopes in the same it is for upslope. That is a sharp barrier on the western side, rather than the more varied terrain leading up the east side. 3.) The location of the low level jet in relation to the inversion and sharp mountain gradient that is necessary for downslope winds and mountain wave breaking. The best downslope winds also tend to happen in WAA regimes due to the increased stability and, especially locally because there's a critical level above mountain top where the winds veer to south (parallel the mountain, which is a critical level for mountain wave breaking). Awesome response man. You are right, we do get very gusty winds in those well blocked flow when it's dumping snow in Williston. But I guess it's that low level jet strength you are talking about...now that I think about it, we get good NW winds but you're right in that it almost never exceeds 50kts at H85. Maybe a flag and a barb for 55-60kts in extreme situations, but not like some of those SWFE situations where you're ripping 80kts out of SNE at 3000ft. The warm air advection is I think what I was missing. That's an important feature I'm sure for the instability.

TauntonBlizzard2013
Thanks for the advice on the apartment question a while back everyone, much appreciated. So a little update.... It sucks lol. Very difficult to find something I can move into before graduation. Most places price wise require I be working full time, unfortunately with my work load... That is not a realistic option right now. It looks like it will be put on hold until graduation, unless of course something falls into my lap

If both of us were working full time anywhere above minimum wage then there'd be plenty of places around here within our range, but it's a fantasy while we're still in school. FRWEATHA
Wind is still really cranking here. SE Mass is the place to be if you like WAA winds. Noisy for sleeping tonight. Personally, I hate it esp. during winter when I warm sector and inland areas CAD.
OceanStWx
Yeah I was referring locally if that was in response to the "You'd be really hard pressed to ever find a NW LLJ over 50 knots" I figured. Actually our local version of southeasterly downslope winds are probably the rarity. I imagine it's the westerly version that dominates most areas outside New England. Maybe up into AK gets in on the SE ones.

Yeah I'm pretty much in the same position. I'm working 20-30 hours on top of school right now. My gf is double majoring in history and special education... Which is incredibly intense... So she is working even less. At this point... It's really just not worth it. Even if we could swing the rent.... We wouldn't have much for anything else. I'll just keep saving what I can here and there and assess when I graduate.

The 4 Seasons
That was probably more intense lightening and thunder than I saw all last summer. Woke me right up. I could swear I heard hail bouncing off the skylight, I checked BOXs FB page and someone reported hail in Branford, CT so I guess it's possible. TheSnowman
Holy Jeeeeppers!! I just went through the Most intense blob currently in the country!!
