Hopefully we get a great severe season and many HHH days, and a cane in late august to top it off.  That would make 2015 probably the all-time greatest weather year ever recorded in history.

Be hard to top 1976 (my 1st year in Ft. Kent).

--minus 41 on Jan 12, welcome to northern Maine

--957 mb storm on Feb 2 with howling winds (blew Penobscot estuary into BGR, drowning 200 cars), temp fell 44 to -6 in 6 hr.

--March 19-20, temp rises from -25 to 50 in 33 hr.

--96F on Easter (in NNJ while visiting family)

--May 7, 1.5" snow in 45 minutes while I tilled the garden.

--Aug 9-10, remainder of Belle dumps 6" RA, most between 6-10 PM, major washouts.

--Woods roads freeze up in late Oct, earliest in (my) memory

--Dec 26-27, 24" snowfall; Dec 29-30, 12" snowfall as we drove NJ-Maine.  Our VW Beetle was merely a white lump in the p.lot when we got back.  61.5" in Dec, my snowiest month ever.

Jury is still out, however, with most of the year to go.  We had little svr in 1976.

doesn't maine always have little severe? I thought they get the fewest amount of thunderstorms for any state in the lower 48

Maine severe is all about latitude and dynamics .,always closer to the s/w

NNE in general has more continental airmass (less marine effect) and closer to the westerlies in the summer which means better forcing aloft. So, you can substitute a bit less CAPE and get nailed.

The Springfield Tor day originally rt 2 was forecast to have some of the best stuff so I hit the road in that direction. An early cell looked like it might drop a spinner but it didn't happen so I traveled south toward Worcester. Two cells approaching for the west and taking gas use into account I picked the closer cell. It ended up going pretty much right over my head and I was tornado warned. Rotating wall cloud too. However, it never touched down and the rest is history in Springfield. Stinks because I probably would have got some ridiculous footage.

The cell just north of the cell responsible for the Springfield tornado had its inflow cut-off by the dominant cell to the south. I also remember the rotating meso going overhead as that cell weakened. And yes, that cell was tor warned and looked pretty impressive about 30 mins before going through the ORH area. too bad the Springfield tor cell was the dominate one

I wonder what people think when they see you taking pictures of their homes in towns you don't live in? I always look into those windows when you take pictures of those houses..and many times there's silhouettes of naked gentlemen in them. it's interesting

These are on my street or next one over. I've wondered what people think and if they would call the cops. I figure I'll just use the Tip slogan...."trust me, I'm a meteorologist" if they question me.

I don't think there is anything illegal about it but it probably depends on what the pics are for. From my experiences people are usually understanding.

When taking storm damage photos if I see the people outside I'll introduce myself tell them what I'm doing and what they are for. When I tel then they are for skywarn and used for the program in the NWS people find it cool.

Only thing I've ever had was a request to block out the address if it's shown

Obviously this isn't representative of every yard, but still some with a good deal of snow cover. Dam impressive for Napril 9th.

That is some pretty crazy snow OTG for entering mid-April.  I'm near some spots that hold snow better than others, and its always interesting to see how long it lasts, haha.  Its the little things in life.

Curious as to how tomorrow works out. I'm leaning crappy for a chunk of the region, esp near BOS. Might be better in CT..but this looks like classic WF crud of a day. This cold isn't going anywhere fast.

yup...fooking bullcrap,  It's nothing but absolute garbage.  I hope starting May 17th we have a 80-day stretch of 90+ with 75 dews.
