Damage In Tolland
All signs alarmingly pointing to a strong Nino quickly coming on. Tropical folks already in full panic mode on another horrendous cane season. How will affect next winter?
Brian5671
Strong NINO? I thought it was on life support and never really developed? Still surprised at the lack of canes the last few years especially with the ridiculously warm AMO (which is now tanking negative quickly)

CoastalWx
Year without a summer. While I would probably caution the hype somewhat, the ocean is in a better state for niño vs last year.

CoastalWx
yep, you would think they would remember although its a warmer base this year so much can occur Yeah. Don't forget the dynamical models will always take whatever stage the kelvin wave is (upwelling or downwelling) and run with it, which is why last year failed as a forecast. But, although I'm an amateur with this stuff, it does seem more favorable. What does it mean next winter? Who knows. My wild azz guess is perhaps some sort of weaker + ENSO deal? Yes very preliminary, but just an educated guess.
