Hoosier
Wish we had more data from March 1843. That would really be an interesting comparison to March 2012 in terms of which one was more extreme...maybe a better comparison in some ways since we are comparing 2 Marches. From the data that is available, there were widespread temperature anomalies of -15 to -20 in this region (some areas a little warmer, others colder). Hoosier
Holy crap, only -6F? Was that because of the snowhole? I hit double digit lows 6 times! Yeah, that probably played a role.
BuffaloWeather
This is a tough one but have to go with March 2012. March 2012 was the warmest March on record for the Buffalo area. Average temp in March 2012: 47.4 2nd warmest on record for March: 44.5 Feb 2015 was the coldest month in history for Buffalo going back to 1871 with a mean temp of 10.9 The 2nd coldest month on record was 11.6 in 1934 For a record to be broken by 3 deg is phenomenal, but this is close as this year brought the coldest month in recorded history. Thundersnow12
I'll go with March 2012, the heat was absolutely nuts. I was interning with Skilling then and can remembering driving to WGN one weekday afternoon and it was like 87 out or something. I don't recall the hottest ORD got that month. SchaumburgStormer
I vote Morch. Granted, April then kicked us directly in the junk that year. I would probably give more consideration to February, but it lacks some bite considering last winter.

BuffaloWeather
Might have to rethink this one for this area based on these stats. At least for Buffalo and upstate NY Feb 2015 was more impressive. 13.4 warmer than average for March 2012 15.1 colder than average for Feb. 2015

At least for Buffalo and upstate NY Feb 2015 was more impressive. 13.4 warmer than average for March 2012 15.1 colder than average for Feb. 2015 Is March 2012 the warmest anomaly of all time? Because February was the coldest month of all time in many locations. If March happened to be July and was the warmest month of all time, it might sway me more... I'm on the fence with this one now, March is such a variable month. I don't think July could ever be 14 above normal, the month just isn't that variable. Yea, I'm off on a tangent here. Powerball
I vote Morch. Granted, April then kicked us directly in the junk that year. True, but the torch returned in full force by May. Nothing's better than back-to-back 90-ish degree heat and sunshine for Memorial Day (2011 and 2012).

Indystorm
Definitely March 2012 for the unprecedented warmth geographically and numerically.
