Chicago WX
surprised they aren't higher on that list, quite a run there from 1916-1918 Well, season total at LEX was only 8.2" through February 15. Makes for 29.3" in the past 18 days through this morning. That in itself would be good for the 18th snowiest season on record. Pretty remarkable late run. OHweather
OU really needs to reconsider their Spring Break timing. Campus is blanketed with 8-10" of snow and the county is shut down, and many reports of over a foot along the Ohio River.
Chicago WX
Paducah is up to 28.5" for the season. Puts them at the 4th snowiest season record. Shorter period of record for them...and let's be honest, it's a snow hole. Still, pretty good relatively speaking. 1) 35.7" in 1977-78 2) 33.5" in 1959-60 3) 28.7" in 1984-85 4) 28.5" in 2014-15 5) 24.5" in 1978-79 6) 23.9" in 2002-03 7) 21.1" in 1969-70 8) 19.3" in 1992-93 9) 18.9" in 2010-11 10) 18.5" in 2013-
ukrocks
This city is pretty much shutdown. Everything is closed. Quite a historic storm in these parts. Tonight, we will likely go below zero for only the second time ever in March and then we could have massive flooding problems next week with the warmup. Chicago WX
Hi, guys. New poster here but longtime lurker. Just thought the lower OV could use another poster since there aren't many of us on here! I can confirm those high snowfall totals. 13 inches at my location just southeast of Louisville. My sister 10 miles to the south has 19 inches. Just across the river in southern IN totals are closer to 8 inches. The extreme totals came from persistent bright banding late last night just south of Louisville. Snowfall rates of 2-3 inches per hour persisted for hours, although I don't think anyone reported thundersnow. This setup was perfect for heavy snow and was probably a once in a 25 year type of event. And all this snow fell after 2-3 inches of rain and flooding. Oh, and the temperature on Tuesday hit the low 60's! Kudos to the ECMWF for nailing these totals days out. The NAM was persistent as well showing a foot plus. The GFS was, well the GFS, but it did ok. Are you the ovweather from EasternUSWX weather board, by any chance?

ukrocks
killer event, incoming warm spell and potential for another heavy rainer could spell trouble down the road That's what I'm fearing. Picked up 2-4 inches of rain and now all this snow. It spells for a disaster. Next week at this time we could be in the 60's.
Hoosier
The big dog climo for the Ohio River region is surprisingly good. Not talking east coast like but not bad considering the latitude. They've had a number of 18+ storms in that region over the years.

Hoosier
Last one that comes to mind was in 1998. Anyone remember that one? Yeah, dumped like 22" in Louisville. There was another one in January 1994 (just before the massive arctic outbreak) that dropped 18-24" in parts of northern KY.
Chicago WX
Last one that comes to mind was in 1998. Anyone remember that one? More of a along the Ohio River and north kind of deal, but this one was pretty big.

They've had a number of 18+ storms in that region over the years. Louisville picked up 16 inches in 94 and 22 inches in 98. We picked up eight inches of snow in 04 but had three or four inches of sleet with it. And, then in 2008 when I was in college and got dryslotted in WKY, Louisville picked up 10 inches. Guest ovweather
I think the past 3 weeks in Kentucky may go down as the harshest 3 week winter period in history for the state. And to think before all this most of the state was in a snow drought. In fact, the year started off dry with precip deficits for the year already over 3 inches by mid Feb. If Louisville can reach -2 tonight, that will be the coldest temp ever recorded here in March.

Guest ovweather
Right on. I remember you from Eastern...and was thinking you had to be in winter heaven these past three weeks. Hope to see you post more. Thanks. Eastern was a bit crazy because us OV and GL folks were few and far between compared to all those crazy Mid-Atlantic and NE posters. This sub-forum is great because there is so much informative stuff posted here about our region. I love the enthusiasm (but not overbearing) of everyone here. I remember you and Hoosier. And that guy Buckeye always cracks me up!
