Ian
Sounds reasonable. Just remember, because someone doesn't think like you...shouldn't allow for you to jump in their sh-it. It's the sensitivity that causes this....not sure what happened to you. My only advice is to grow thicker skin. It'll serve you well in the real world with real men. Sidestepped again. You don't like me. It's fine. I honestly never think about you at all except when you follow me around like this.

CAPE
Sometimes there is a fine line between being negative or just enjoying delivering bad news to those who want snow. Often it is real hard to tell the difference with some posters if they are trolling or being serious. When we are all tracking a storm and a bad model run comes there are some here that just can't wait to s*** on those who love snow. I could go on further but what's the point. You seem to be a pretty reasonable poster and you understand your climo Thanks. And I know your climo well too, as I lived in Carroll County for 12 years

Ian
I'm sure there is a bit of competition to be first around here, especially if you are a new person coming into a group that has more or less been together for a long time. I follow the models fairly closely, but certainly not to the same extent as many here. I'm naturally optimistic, but at the same time I actively try to temper that optimism when it comes to something I can get emotionally attached to (winter). If you know climo, especially this time of year, that's a good part of the battle. It isn't easy for us to get real good snows here (in the city) and I've found that I learn a lot more trying to figure out the red flags than focusing on the positives. It's hard to be objective, but you set yourself up for a lot of disappointment if you lock into something 5-7 days out more often than not. This is a weird place for snow. We go years struggling to get anything decent then run into patterns that just deliver at every op. I have stated numerous times that 'seasonal trends' (or intraseasonal trends) are real to a degree and that we get on heaters etc. I said that it seemed like we were in one now (prior to recent storms). I was not on the cancel winter bandwagon in early Feb despite stats 'screaming' we were in trouble for a lot of these reasons. I love snow just as much as the next guy.. until it falls and sticks around too long at least. Sometimes it's good to be a devils advocate anyway because it gets people thinking. I'll admit to doing that from time to time too (NAM: "It could be right").

Ian
It's good to be Devils advocate. But if you give it, you gotta be able to take it. True, but I actually don't really go after anyone first these days I don't think? Every now and then I make a comment about 'snow weenies' but I've done that forever.. the worst time of the year here is late fall when the forum population quadruples. I'm fine taking heat when it's warranted. I'm pretty used to people saying my thoughts are bad at this point.. my twitter account is connected to hundreds of articles on the post, I hear from plenty of random people. This is a stupid argument overall.. I realize that even as I go on with it.

Ian
I was surprised Ian called Mitch a piece of ****. He has been lying/misleading about my commentary and this is not the first time. We have very different styles. I commended him several times on turning bullish before the pattern flipped.. he is no slouch and knows his stuff. But he also likes to ride a gut feeling like it's real and meaningful.. then he went out of his way to find 'bad' calls from well before the storm because I was skeptical (as I should have been). When have I ever done that to him? Never.

mdhokie
I haven't seen my lawn since Feb 14. That's pretty crazy. I don't even think 2/6-2/10 blizzards lasted this long, at least not in uniform coverage. The plow piles obviously lasted much longer.

CAPE
Sittin outside on my deck in a sweater with a knit hat, drinking a beer, on the wi-fi, and just looking at the beauty around me. Being in the woods is great this time of year for holding onto the snowpack. No sign of a blade of grass anywhere.

Ian
LOL, I didn't see grass that year from 1/30 to 3/11. I think Feb 2010 was longer for most around here but maybe similar in spots at this point. Many probably had cover from Jan 30 till like Feb 25 or so at least. Definitely the longest since then.

Many probably had cover from Jan 30 till like Feb 25 or so at least. Definitely the longest since then.It was definitely a flip of the switch shortly after the last storm. Never seen 10 feet of snow melt so fast. I was willing it to melt away towards the later half of the month. The ice dams on the roofssucked. I was lucky because I did a nice roof replacement in 06 that included an ice dam barrier underneath the shingles. A lot of my neighbors werent so lucky. They had water running down the inside of their siding. Some had it infiltrate their attic. I debated the extra $800 for the extra protection when I did the roof. Man I don't regret doing that now. Peace of mind for sure.

Peace of mind for sure. Yeah it mostly only lasted that long because there was so much. Definitely melted quick after overall. In that sense this is a more classic winter period as we had a whole lot of days with no or little melting. My street has had packed ice on the sides since mid-Feb. Whack. Fozz
Last year some of the colder northern spots had snow cover from January 21st to early/mid March... I know southern PA did (Millersville included), which is a major reason why it's one of my favorite winters. My backyard was a little too far south a couple of times (rain on 2/3 messed it up), but I bet the northern Carroll county folks can confirm.
