stormtracker
Yeah, I have to say this is a bit more impressive than I thought. Although I wasn't super downplaying it either. I think Sterling was on the ball with the upgrade on this one.

Nalanthi
WxUSAF, don't know where in columbia you are, but I just had to take my floor scraper to the driveway to break up the ice pack on it. Solid quarter inch at least. Sidewalk was still slushy and snowblower had no problem with it.
ThreeRedheads
I'm at 31.3° and the driveway, sidewalk and deck are ice. Checked our road, which was treated 3xs today and it's slippery. Definitely a school delay tomorrow.

ravensrule
Analogous to a severe storm warning with 50 mph gusts that knocks a few rotted trees down in the city. I think the derecho back in 2012 actually helped us in situations like this. That storm took down almost every dying or weak tree in the area. If not for that i think the past few ice storms especially this one, would have had many more power outages.

We've had our fair share of tree downing events in recent history. Though .25" is pushing it for problems anyway. It's sort of the beginning of the cusp I guess. Take away the big road impacts and it's not kin to a ton of verified winter storm warnings you see.

Agreed. This one was one of the few WSW's for ice that actually verified around here.
Random Chaos
Final tally for me: 0.30" ice, approximately (really hard to tell exactly since it varies sightly as you move along a branch, probably due to the branches drooping as they got heavier, but all measurements I took seemed to average to 0.30"). I did put down salt earlier. Here is what it did: melted a hole through the ice, which subsequently froze over. Not exactly useful. Worried about wind come morning and the ice not gone yet. snowfan
Icicles on the street lamp outside are pushing 8". Those things are no joke.
Herb@MAWS
No downticks in temp all day. 29.7 now. Slushy snow on walks, driveways and streets but found it all negotiable, but while taking care. Shoveling is eh. Like picking up sludge. Except there is only an inch of it.
hosj III
RAP and NAM have some gusts past 25 knots tomorrow. Looks like the SPIA will jump to 3 or so, assuming we don't melt overnight.
StudentOfClimatology
Though temps are cooling now, I suspect they'll spike after the passage of the front. There will be a compressional element present along with warmer air aloft being mixed down to an extent during the CAA. Could be a saving grace, might not be enough if we drop back into the 20s beforehand. If trees are still frozen when the 30mph gusts arrive, probably won't be pretty. WxUSAF
Yeah, I have to say this is a bit more impressive than I thought. Although I wasn't super downplaying it either. I think Sterling was on the ball with the upgrade on this one. Agreed. Kudos to LWX on this one. I was skeptical and this was a widespread verification. Temp seems to have peaked at 31.4. Off a few tenths since. You've been colder than me all day. Odd. I mistyped when I said you were warmer earlier. Although maybe the PWS near me is running a touch warm. WxUSAF, don't know where in columbia you are, but I just had to take my floor scraper to the driveway to break up the ice pack on it. Solid quarter inch at least. Sidewalk was still slushy and snowblower had no problem with it. On the east side near 100/Snowden junction. My back patio is a skating rink, I had to walk out on it so I could hammer away at the ice build up on my neighbor's heat pump. It was making a huge racket. Driveway and my street are still mostly slushy though. Cars are encased and trees are weighed down.
mscott
Icicles on the street lamp outside are pushing 8". Those things are no joke. The roads aren't horrible but this has been the most impressive ice event I have seen here in years.
mappy
About .1 of ice here, the prolonged sleet saved me from major ice accumulation. Nothing like last feb where I had over .25"
mattie g
Yep. The trees are already getting noisy. Interesting. I haven't noticed a breath of wind all day.
hosj III
30.5 here. Between a quarter and a third of an inch of ice. Sidewalks and driveways are skating rinks, and there are big patches of ice on the roads as well. The snow makes a satisfying crunch when you step on it. StudentOfClimatology
Final ice total here is ~0.3", +/- 0.05". Currently 31.3/30, slush and puddles are slowly freezing over...
Bob Chill
Temp is 32 on the sensor but there is no dripping going on. Pretty wild scene outside. Best glacial conditions with the snow pack I've seen in years. 5 winter events in 15 days. Front yard has been 100% covered since Feb14th. I hope it survives tues-wed. Might pull off 100% coverage for 3 weeks. I don't think that happened in Feb 2010. Solid winter this year.
MN Transplant
Poor dog. Can't get footing on the patio and then breaks through the ice layer on top of the snow and just plops down too afraid to keep going. Heck of a scene out there. Would have been a mess if it had happened at night. OPM 2-hr delay chances? I say pretty good.
RevWarReenactor
Drove from Winchester VA to Delaware during the height of the storm , I-70 was pretty bad. Lots of cars off the road. Speeds no greater than 40 mph. I-95 was hit or miss some areas where the road crews came out did a pretty decent job. Side roads were terrible though. Skywalker03
The ice in rockville is legit. Our side-street was slushy earlier and is now a glacier. The snow pack is shiny. I agree with Bob. Pretty great couple of weeks in this neck of the woods.

Heck of a scene out there. Would have been a mess if it had happened at night. OPM 2-hr delay chances? I say pretty good. My dog tumbled down a snow bank after relieving himself. Almost have to walk in the glacier here because the sidewalks are glaze or slush puddle. It is an incredible stretch.
CAPE
Tree branches snapping, and a few pretty big ones came down in the back. This is why I dont root for ice storms. Major glacier out there, have not seen anything like this here since the ice storms in the 90s.
