Ian
Ive seen sillier But it seems to meet the criteria....potential for 0.25" of ice. Issue with meeting that would be its March in daytime with the increased solar insolation. But temps are holding in the mid to upper 20s most places so far. It's early in event but even untreated stuff is mainly just wet here and I live in a cold part of the city. If I get .2" ice on a tree limb and just have puddles on the ground... Eh we'll see.
Ltrain
Roads here are all covered with snow and ice. Even Ritchie Highway was pretty bad. No UHI here.
winterymix
Best sleet of the year in Reisterstown. I found this info to be useful: http://www.theweatherprediction.com/winterwx/thicknesscriteria/

Jebman
Jeb, didn't you give up this morning? It was all reverse psychology. Works all the time. I got my ice storm.

StudentOfClimatology
ZR continues, currently 26.9/24, temps still bouncing around though.
WVclimo
Just like that, flipped to moderate sleet with some flakes mixing in. 1.5" of snow.

If I get .2" ice on a tree limb and just have puddles on the ground... Eh we'll see. Yeah this type of event in the city this time of year may not be that big a deal. Everything is coated here just looking outside. I'm goinna do a Jebwalk I guess and walk down to the road just to see what it looks like lol. Ian
Don't forget about clumsy Pedestrians! Obviously the criteria is low here so maybe hands are tied but it's not totally clear we weren't ok with an advisory in the city at least.
DDweatherman
Obviously the criteria is low here so maybe hands are tied but it's not totally clear we weren't ok with an advisory in the city at least. That's true, I do think up towards areas north of BWI there could be icing concerns. Nothing extreme but some slippery sidewalks and even iced over roads.
Swiscaster
I am sitting on the tarmac in Houston waiting to fly to Reagan. Any airport delays?

A quarter inch of ice typically merits wsw criteria. eta: Though I guess that number could have been upped relative to the warning primarily. Nothing extreme but some slippery sidewalks and even iced over roads. Yes.. I was not that surprised to see the warnings earlier up north given models late yesterday. I'd be surprised at this point if things got really icy here on travelways at least. Solar power hitting peak next few hours.. only way it's going to get really icy IMBY is if it lasts well into dark I think.
needbiggerboat
I am sitting on the tarmac in Houston waiting to fly to Reagan. Any airport delays? centreville and the area are a dangerous sheet of ice...stay in houston, the crappiest city in the us. why don't you take the direct from IAD to HNL on united? North Balti Zen
By the way, how did I win in terms of snow when I moved from Memphis to this area in August of 2009? This warning was the standard issue winter event in Memphis. A little snow, some ice on top. How I loathed that. So glad that isn't all I have to look forward to nowadays. Seems like maybe it was also warranted in Loudoun/Fauquier
vern
I just drove from Reston to Dulles. ZR and sleet but no ice on the roads.
osfan24
Probably about a half inch or so in Elkridge with light to moderate sleet. Side roads all covered and even some of the main ones are pretty covered as well. It will be interesting to see if this impacts schools and the government tomorrow. I guess it depends on temps tonight.
Jebman
Later tonight when the cold front hits - winds will overload some trees already loaded with ice. It does not take much wind to cause tree damage when the trees have a lot of ice.
paxpatriot
Heaviest snow band of the season for the M/D. Measured 2.6 inches a short while ago, and heavy snow still falling. 27.3F.
MN Transplant
Sidewalks and neighborhood roads ice covered, but the sleet actually provides some grit. Not a lot of buildup on the trees. Dripping off of the shed roof, so the solar is helping in that regard. 27.
CAPE
Just took a walk around outside. Sleet/freezing rain combo, about 50/50. Glaze of ice on everything. Road is covered but not awful due the the snow/sleet layer.

Ian
It's getting pretty icy out to the west, also. Seems like maybe it was also warranted in Loudoun/Fauquier My thoughts are usually pretty DC centric to be honest. I will look elsewhere and do focus on a county or two circle around the city in general but I'm talking about the city and maybe east. NWS here has a tough job given the population density if nothing else... though you do wonder if these late upgrades are based on reports at all or just a hunch/cya type thing. It's early.. who knows maybe I'm wrong.
cae
I measured about 0.6" of snow before it switched to sleet / freezing rain. Still coming down. 26 degrees.
CAPE
It's surprising to me they are not included. Probably because the bulk of the heavier precip going forward is forecast to be along I-95 and points east. So not likely to meet the criteria there I would guess.
