gritsnc
All of our local channels have said rain or mix to start, so this isn't entirely a surprise. Give it time. It's only just begun and it's an all night event. There is still time for the changeover to accumulating snow.
JQPublic
Being cautious and annoying paid off. Getting some big fat flakes here right now. GO WOLFPACK! Drove home from downtown Raleigh to Cary and it was pretty much snow the entire time.
Cold Rain
Impossible Pack. You know what else is impossible? The dusting of snow on my grass right now. The temp is in the upper 30s and the ground temp is above freezing. That's just not scientifically possible.

flowerybranchweather
that sucks. I hope you guys switch over soon. I do too, it sucks that it was snowing heavily earlier and now it's all melting.

lookingnorth
Still 39 and overcast here. Somehow I'm not expecting much from this, except a long, cold, hard rain.
Dunkman
Warm noses always overperform. Or at least it seems like it. Looks like tonight might not be an exception. That's why I liked our spot in this storm so much. With Raleigh and Charlotte seemingly on the edge with the modeling we had quite a bit of wiggle room. Maybe we can get what Roanoke usually get when we are the ones on the edge.

To your point, heavy sleet here...just like that. Dusting of snow, coming down hard to all sleet, at the snap of a finger. Temp 38.

We shouldn't mix here until MAYBE at the end, and even then I wouldn't expect it necessarily. You're scaring me, man. We have wiggle room. We're good, I think. Paparon79
Weather is a funny mistress. It is 34 here near Wilmington and mostly rain but 38 in Raleigh and snow. I know it has to do with the temps above ground and the dew points. Just doesn't seem right though. Have fun with your snow guys.
superjames1992
Well, the 21z SREF plumes still have a mean of a little over 10" at GSO, about the same as last run. That's good. Sounds like totals are a little down for RDU and CLT (mixing?). There's a cluster of members from 3-6". a couple members in the 6-7" range, and the rest are 10-16". Can we really make a run at 10"? I'm skeptical and thinking more like 6-8" at this point, but we'll see.
Setzy1517
Superjames, what do you think is a realistic time for things to get cranking here at GSO?

Cold Rain
Can someone tell me why this started off as moderate snow for me and then switched to sleet? Purely rates? There shouldn't be strong WAA yet, should there be?
nchighcountrywx
Just changed over to rain. Well this sucks. Well that didn't take long. Keep faith, maybe a surprise will be in store. In the meantime, a study of the importance of dew points would be in order. Linville: 22.1 degrees and dewpoint of 21. Light to Moderate snow. JoshWeather
noaa has been all over the map today, seemingly switching every hour. Since 10 AM, i have been forcasted to get: 3-5, 4-8, 5-9, 4-8, 5-9, 7-11, 5-9 and now 6-10. lol.
superjames1992
Superjames, what do you think is a realistic time for things to get cranking here at GSO? The next couple hours, I'd imagine. It will be interesting to see if we start rippin' right away or have some light snow for awhile. I think I'm going 6-8" for our area. We could make a run at 10", I guess, but it's probably not particularly likely. I think our minimum is 4". If we can't make 4", I am going to have a meltdown (or be disappointed, anyways). I'd love to eclipse 8" and get the first storm >8" since January 2002... The plumes certainly give some hope towards that goal, but we'll see.
