One thing that this storm has taught/reinforced is just how important AIR temps are, not ground temps, for accumulating snow.  Everyone always worries about ground temps, but heck, I have probably 1/2 an inch after at least 2 hours of moderate to heavy snow being under 30 to 45 dbz radar returns.  The other night when we had our 20 minutes of snow on the tail end of that quick system, we had just about the same amount (and more on the roads) with only about 20 minutes of light to mod snow, but air temps were around 29 to 30.  It's hard to believe how little accumulation we have over here with as hard as it snowed earlier.

i have to say the reports of a lot of the n ga folks getting all that heavy snow and now changing over to rain is a bit disheartening. hopefully that ends soon and all of n ga goes back to all snow

Yep, rain here as well even though the column is below freezing according to SPC mesoscale page.

@NWSGSP: Generally speaking, snowfall rates of 1in/hr should begin by 8 pm across the western Carolinas & NE GA, slowing after midnight.

I thought we were looking at 2-3 inches per hour earlier today. Even Robert said that on WXSouth.

This one " per hour guidance is also backed up by the recent SPC mesoscale discussion.

I believe Robert statement was possible 2 to 3 inch rates per hour
