wthrmn654
For years I've known of Davis having the best weather stations, and I Will say I have to agree. But times do change and I'm wondering, what most people buy these days? What are the most accurate, with the quickest refresh rate, options, etc. How many different brands are there? It's been about7 years roughly since I've bought my Davis station, with no replacement or repairs expect for bad temperature and fan replacement for the fan aspirated shield. How's everyone else's stations holding up?
UlsterCountySnowZ
I have an accurite, some love em, others not so much It's accurite 909s. Connects to my comp and cell phone, does what I need so no complaints

uncle W
I used to have my own station and had many different makes of instruments...I used to get them from here...I made my own shelters out of old louver doors... http://www.americanweather.com/index.php
doncat
I've had a Vantage Pro now for 12 years...have replaced the temp/humidity sensor and anemometer/windvane....I would definitely buy a davis station again ...there are other, cheaper stations but if you can afford around 375 bucks, I would go with the Vantage Pro. wthrmn654
Very nice, I used ambient weather, they are pretty good outfit to use when looking for a station, they have guides etc. I'd post a photo of my station but,you can go to my weather underground link to get a photo if out on the Gladstone site. Going relocate my station to on top of roof. It's mounted on side of house by eve,and I'm aiming for better wind readings.

wthrmn654
I have to say, but more expensive, but having a fan aspirated shield deft pays off... I haven't had crazy temperature readings..the only flaw however, wind less nights in winter, and the wood stove lol... Another reason I want to move the location. We have a gauge, manual in yard for noaa or something. I forget who exactly.

I didn't have the room for a ground level station when I lived in Brooklyn...I had a small back yard and an alley way...The front was short...I had no choice but to put it on my roof... HSNN4
Good Evening, Over the years we have had almost every weather station known to man, The best weather station out there for the price hands down is the Davis Vantage Vue, easy to install and easy to place online you do not have to be a computer wiz. Another good station but very pricey is to the Earth Network's Weatherbug stations which are professional grade stations. Also if your going to have a station you should try to mount the station close to NWS spec's for surface weather stations granted your location may not be perfect to monitor wind and precipitation due to trees and other elements. Also good station that has last for years is our PEET Brothers station which we have that hooked up via telephone something like an AWOS station. Here is a link to our vantage vue station online with Davis Weather Link. http://www.weatherlink.com/user/hsnn4/ Tony Mondaro NWS Cooperative Weather Observer Station: HSNN4 - Harrison, NJ

doncat
wow...I hope he has many more years a head...Does your shelter get shaded during the day?...I had that problem when I lived onn Victory Blvd... Yard is surrounded by woods on three sides so thermos are shaded from the se after sunrise for a few hours...so my station will warm up slower than other places during growing season but readings have always been consistent with others, The shelter and the vantage pro are several feet from each other and always agree to a few tenths of a degree. Here's another pic...
Isotherm
Nice set-up don. I've had the Davis Vantage Pro 2 since 2007 now, and other than replacing the hum/temp sensor once, then adding the fan in 2010 I believe, it's been working great. Raised up the anemometer several years ago as well to height of about 27 feet (recorded some good gusts in the 50s and one in the 60s since then). I find it to be very accurate. On uniform temp days, I'm usually quite close to either TTN or BLM.

No my father wasn't really into weather but he helped me when I was growing up with the purchasing and installation of all my gadgets...remember back then there weren't wireless stations, you had to run wires and drill holes into the house...the good old days! wthrmn654
Well here's an update,so to speak, with new roof and siding on house being replaced, station has to come down. Being it's my parents house, and moving into my house, (once habitat for humanity comes back so we can finish it and I move in), I want to keep this season here, sure to the fact it's in a wide open area compared to me location 5 minutes away. Decided to replace wind came and wind cups, main cover with solar panel as well. Noticed the aspirated fan wasn't working, perfect time to do a cleaning and other odds and ends. Turns out the circuit board has failed, on solar panel side. I really don't want to send back to Davis and so I did some extensive online searching... Found a website,or 2 that allows you to buy, any part that isn't available to public to buy, online. The lists updated from Davis very often. https://www.scaledinstruments.com/product-category/davis-instruments/ Anyway, bought the board, batteries, hopefully be back in business This week! Basically the only real failure I've had minus having the original temperature sensor fail while under warranty,(seemed to of been a common issue). Plan on getting the weather bridge to keep everything online. Should be fun

wthrmn654
One thing I've noticed and have been wondering, when wag the last time Davis came out with anything crazy new? I wonder if they have any big plans or anything. They have improved since sensors a and things, designed some new wind vans and rain bucket, long range sensor and remote station with ability to have it transit through cellular network. Maybe new station ideas some day? Would be really cool if they integrated or had lightening sensor.
