Scarlet Pimpernel Posted February 22, 2015 Share Posted February 22, 2015 I was out a good part of the afternoon, so this isn't the most precise measurement...but I'm putting down 6.0" on the day (probably ~8-9" total on the ground including what was there before) here in the Chevy Chase area. Seems more or less in line with other nearby reports. Great event! I was actually at the Kennedy Center this afternoon to see Sleepy Hollow (Washington Ballet performance). When we left the theater around 4PM or so, there were probably about 4" there I'd estimate. Metro'ed back to Silver Spring where I was parked, and drove home from there. Roads were a disaster and scary at that time. E-W Hwy and Connecticut Ave. were snow covered and not fun to be on. Thank goodness I only had to go about 4-5 miles, and there was very little traffic (and some crazy people spinning their wheels instead of slowly pressing the gas!). Just kept it in 2nd gear and went about 15MPH the entire way. I don't know what the temperature is here now (~8:45PM), but there is a layer of sleet atop the snow and now we've got what appears to be light freezing rain with some sleet mixed in. Definitely icy. Hopefully we keep the snow pack with not too much rain and melting, then get...as Bob Chill calls it...glaciation tomorrow night when temperatures drop. psuhoffman Posted February 22, 2015 Share Posted February 22, 2015 Been really piling up the last couple hours. Rates have eased up a bit after some very heavy stuff. Looks to be about 8. Temp still at 23. no idea how to get an accurate measurement. Blew into drifts bad. I got 8" in the low spots but drifts up to 20" in places. Of course way more low spots then drifts so no idea. T. August Posted February 22, 2015 Share Posted February 22, 2015 I see that a spotter in Havre de Grace went with 7.5". Hmmmm. Maybe I got more than I thought lol. Weathertap radar shows the mixing line cutting across northern Carroll last I checked..it was tickling westminster. I'll probably change soon. If the sun comes out with downsloping winds and 850mb temps near 0c we could easily hit upper 40s. If it stays cloudy upper 30s. I'm betting on warmer. Hope I'm wrong.
