superjames1992
The dry air is eating it. It's melting, too, though. You can see water running in some places. Evil asphalt.
AirNelson39
It's melting, too, though. You can see water running in some places. Evil asphalt. Happens all the time up here in Boone, even in early January...doesn't matter how cold it is.

I honestly think that sometimes we're better off having a cold rain than full sun when it comes to snowcover retention, especially this time of year. 33/RN does surprisingly little damage to the snowpack, IMO. CherokeeGA
goodness, what kind of elevation are you at ? Amazing that you were close to 10 degrees colder than Atlanta on a windy night. Usually with the wind, temps are more uniform. Hmm close to 1000 ft I think. We are virtually always cooler than ATL, though. The official ATL temps are way south of here. And anytime I see a forecast for "Canton" I pretty much automatically subtract 2-3 degrees for what it will really be here in the northeast area of the county. We are up to 17 now. sctvman
Temperatures different depending on where you are in CHS area. James Island Yacht Club still hasn't cracked freezing (31). Most inland areas in the middle 30s. Wind makes it colder. Already school delays for tomorrow morning here.
tazaroo
It's up to 23. Way warmer than the forecast yesterday for a high of 17. This is as warm as tomorrows forecast high. Quite a disappointment. I guess the mountains blocked the severe cold after all. Don't think I'll reach that 0 tonight either.
Tullioz
The low here last night was 6.4 and currently it is 19.2.
sctvman
Another problem is the higher sun angle. Even as far north as Raleigh, sunset isn't till 6pm tonight. Much different from December or the beginning of January when sunset is at 5 or before.
sctvman
BTW, last year on this date it was EIGHTY-THREE degrees in Charleston. 50 degrees colder than last year on this date.

Our lowest temperature recorded this year was 7.7° on January 8th. Should make a run at that tonight.
superjames1992
We made it to 20 as of 3 PM. I was hoping we could manage a high in the teens. Oh, well. The low was a balmy 10 last night, too, so tonight better deliver.
metalicwx366
I hit 22 F as a high so far today here north of Atlanta. It is now 22.1. Waycross hit 41, which is a couple of degrees warmer than I had expected as of 2 PM.42 now. You forgot to factor in the fact that it's Way cross which is the warmest place in the state typically. Everyone is acting like its 0 degrees here lol. Its feels worse here than last year's 33 for a high because of the wind. NWS was actually correct with the high. I know damn well we won't hit 21 tonight though lol!
