MJO812
Heck of a day for winter weather any good stories ? My uncle got married on February 15,2003. After the wedding, I was listening to the news about this storm. The forecasts were for 6-12 inches. I got close to 20 with this storm. Great storm. mulen
That storm lost a good start due to mixing and a wind field to be reckoned with ,a very powerful system remember it was plenty cold but upwelling into the core produced warm mid levels for a good portion of the storm. She came to the dance and threw out alot of sleet from what i recollect or the snow amounts would of been considerably more. Guest Pamela
One of the greatest depths out here was achieved at storm's end...started with 5 on the ground, added about 20 more.

Guest Pamela
We went from 5" to 23". See, the similarities in the data show that we kept good records. Whenever a particular station reports something extreme (be it an extreme temperature...or rainfall amount...or snowfall amount)...and it seems questionable...the important thing to do...the thing any good climatologist would do...is see if he can find a nearby station that "backs up" the extreme observation. If he can do that, odds are the original observation was reflective of reality.

I was at a wedding that night and my car almost slid off the entrance ramp to the BQE on the way home. Scary stuff. Highways were a mess.

The thing I recall was that the penultimate episode of Oz was on HBO that night...and the snow started to fall right as they ran those rather haunting opening credits. chazman
I remember watching the radar as the snow inched along. It seemed to be over Southern Queens for hours before it ever got to where I live just a few miles north. Probably why JFK got 10" more than LGA
