Rhode Islander in Balto
Yeah based on radar which doesn't look bad and the rates that have been improving around some parts recently, I'd expect about 5" at the end of this one. Would be a great total. 5 inches would make both me and my Corgi ridiculously happy, and will be easy for him to play fetch in tomorrow. There's nothing a Corgi loves more than snow fetch...unless it's too deep for his stumpy legs. Rates are the best they've been all night, and the radar is filling in nicely! I'm optimistic for 5 inches
WVsnowlover
Kind of amazing that this still hasn't eclipsed Saturday's totals in a lot of areas... Saturday being a glorified cold front that started out with temps in the mid-upper 30s... Wasn't hard to surpass here, considering I got about 1/10 of an inch Sat. Staged
Thanks Bob for keeping us informed that don't know as much about what's going on. I'll admit I was worried earlier. Great rates right now in leesburg. Parts that I plowed just a half hour ago need gone over again.
StudentOfClimatology
Man, if I could pick up 5" I'd be thrilled. Snowing nicely..
Bob Chill
There were definitely bouncing particles that snow does not accomplish. Maybe graupel? Yea, has to be. Weird storm with snow growth. My 15-1 call was awful. But I profess limited skill at best. It's not that it's too cold. Surface doesn't determine snow growth. Upstairs is in the good range but other things are in play. Dynamics/lift/fronto etc. Next few hours will likely feature the best ratios/rates. A lot going on in the atmosphere right now.
WeathergeekMD
2.5 inches in Laytonsville, MD. Heaviest snow rates so far just kicked in. Looks like larger flakes are mixing in with the pixie dust and snowballs. Roads are terrible.
AlaskaETC
Nearly 4" in Kingstowne, VA. Lovely Jebwalk. Going to take another when the rates come back in. Beautiful night.

Surface doesn't determine snow growth. Upstairs is in the good range but other things are in play. Dynamics/lift/fronto etc. Next few hours will likely feature the best ratios/rates. Bob Chill
Then what ratios are we really looking at? 10-1 so far is my best guess. That should change for the remainder.

Deck Pic
pouring flakes... half mile visibility and the flakes are small and medium sized now... progress I suppose. we're at that point where even when radar sucks we are doing ok, and when radar looks ok, we are doing better than we were with a similar radar presentation 4 hours ago

Bob Chill
I'm going to have to go back to just calling people weenies for talking about ratios. Though we'll see.. the backside should be good there. Guilty as charged. I don't think anybody called for the type of snow growth we've seen. Unusual. Similar but slightly different storm would probably fluff us to death. I'm not very picky either way. Beats the F out of mixed to melty glop. MacintoshPro
Steady light flakes in N. Arlington. Better than those stupid pellets, but it looks like we are caught between two bands. But I'm optimistic for 5", with 3.5" on the ground already.
PDIII
There were definitely bouncing particles that snow does not accomplish. Maybe graupel? I am confirming the bouncing.. Just took a drive through downtown Baltimore and it sounded like sand particles on my window.. Def not sleet.. But very fine grain flakes
