mackerel_sky
We are done with precip. Was out walking the dog , and heard about 4 or 5 trees/branches popping in the woods behind the house! Finished off with a flurry of heavy zr with temp at 31.

Cold air has really gotten down into Columbia over the past 2 hours. Also there is one heck of a temperature gradient along the warm front not far south of town with Bamberg sitting at 57! Jet Stream Rider
What an amazing dynamic event. Absolutely astonished and so very grateful. Its all frozen here, no zr and still falling. My temperature continues to fall as well! Down another 5 tenths this hour. This will likely be my final hourly report of the night. Just amazed it didn't go over to zr. 2am report north Chapel Hill: Sleet, snow and ice slivers. 17.2 degrees. Accumulation must be close to 2". JacobNC
Greg Fishel has issued his apology for there not being a major winter storm in the Triangle area: Despite what some of you may think, this was indeed a potentially crippling ice storm. A degree or two difference anywhere in the lower 6,000 feet of the atmosphere would have resulted in a much different landscape this morning. We lucked out big time. And if the same situation presents itself in the future, we will handle it exactly the same way.Read more at http://www.wral.com/sleet-saves-central-nc-from-crippling-ice-storm/14451546/#SkWBWBsT6D3at2FW.

JoshWeather
just stopped sleeting in north charlotte within the last 10-15 minutes. Was sleeting so hard that I could hear it bouncing off of the roof at my workplace. Not looking forward to my (normally) 40 minute commute in about 5 hours.
