What an amazing dynamic event. Absolutely astonished and so very grateful.

 

Its all frozen here, no zr and still falling. My temperature continues to fall as well! Down another 5 tenths this hour. This will likely be my final hourly report of the night. Just amazed it didn't go over to zr.

 

2am report north Chapel Hill: Sleet, snow and ice slivers. 17.2 degrees. Accumulation must be close to 2".

Greg Fishel has issued his apology for there not being a major winter storm in the Triangle area:

 

 

 

Despite what some of you may think, this was indeed a potentially crippling ice storm. A degree or two difference anywhere in the lower 6,000 feet of the atmosphere would have resulted in a much different landscape this morning. We lucked out big time. And if the same situation presents itself in the future, we will handle it exactly the same way.
