WES1023
Power now flashing on and off. I can hear trees/limbs falling every couple of minutes. Around .4" of accumulated ice.
NCHurricane
About 60% IP/ 40% ZR right now. 21°/19°. Probably the heaviest the precip has been the whole evening.
weatherbubba
It's 20 degrees here just South of Raleigh with moderate sleet. I pray the pingerfest continues. I don't want to relive the December 2002 ice storm!
NEGa
At least half inch of ice in Toccoa. Scanner is crazy. i am one county to your west and have the same conditions. power lines keep falling and catching on fire. it sounds like quite a few trees are down on roads around the area - it is crazy lol
jtgus
Still steady sleet here in Gibsonville, NC. The back edge is sure getting close to the Triad.
sparklecity
Some really heavy echos in NE GA right now. What's it like over there? Heavy fzrn or ip?
Jet Stream Rider
Show's basically over here. Last I measured was a little over 5" but that was at around 9:30. We'll call it 5.5" I was able to hang on to all snow until the last hour or so. Not too bad. Models had precip lasting until 3-4am, but that's usually how these work out. Start earlier, end earlier. Hope you Carolina/Georgia boys and girls stay safe and keep your power! Congrats man! Awesome system for you. Pouring sleet here. I'm north of the zr and at 18 degrees. Godspeed to those folks south in the zr.
Shack
Incredible temp gradient. 60deg here in Macon, while 22 miles north in Forsyth it's 37.
Extreme NEGA
Some really heavy echos in NE GA right now. What's it like over there? Heavy fzrn or ip? Fzrn moderate mostly but it has been heavy at times.
NEGa
Some really heavy echos in NE GA right now. What's it like over there? Heavy fzrn or ip? all frz rain - moderate to heavy 0 at least .4" ice? (its bigger than my thumb) it is hard to tell - thats on top of the 1/2" sleet. its really coming down and trees are creaking and popping. fire departments busy with down lines and power lines on fire. several poles have snapped in two
WidreMann
I think it's still sleet. Looks like it in the streetlights. I'm probably going to go back out one more time before going to bed. I'm guessing it'll stay sleet for the next hour before becoming ZR (based on RAP). However, we won't have a long period of ZR, so I can't see more than 0.10" or so of ice accretion. MADDOGG
Some really heavy echos in NE GA right now. What's it like over there? WidreMann
RDU and IGX both show about 0.15" or so of liquid. That seems unlikely to be the case. Undercatch possibly? How do they deal with sleet?
Rankin5150
Still moderate sleet with a little bit of snow mixed in, but primarily sleet. Looks to be 80% ip, 10% sn and 10% zr. Hope no one loses their power...
sparklecity
I'd image we are getting close to .25" but I haven't been outside to check recently. I haven't heard any limbs snapping or power flashes yet, but its prob coming. The sleet has prob saved us from an extreme event. 29.1°
SnowGator
We've been without power for hours now in northern Forsyth county GA. Trees are down everywhere, outside its just non-stop cracking and popping, flashing transformers. EMS is asking folks to stay off the roads due to downed trees and power lines. We just never had the warm up they kept saying would happen, but we weren't really in the area they thought was going to have a bad ice storm danger either. Unfortunately we're about to lose our big river birch in the front yard. No school for the kids tomorrow. Im worried about the fish and turtles in my aquarium too! East northeast wind picking up. Absolutely amazing. Went out and swept some of it. Weighs a ton. About 1.5 -2" accumulation.

WidreMann
Last heavy band coming through. Maybe another quarter inch with this one? After that, rates will be lower, I imagine, and at some point, we'll get ZR. Will be interesting to see what it looks like tomorrow morning. RTPGiants
How so? Are they easy to drive on, or do they actually look clear? My parking lot is certainly completely white, and that's even with a few cars having driven through it. Definitely white coated, but not really that slippery feeling. Didn't try to drive on it, just gut feeling. But if you look at WRAL's traffic cameras, cars are doing a good clip on I85.

NEGa
Big boom and now no power lol. Can really hear things popping now. Scanner reports are power lines down and on fire but the trucks can't reach. Those power sites are interesting. U can see the outages approaching your area. TriadDeac
Light to moderate sleet continues in High Point. It appears it will be wrapping up soon. Wish it would have stayed snow a little longer but the sound of sleet is pretty cool.

jburns
So after all this I have about 1/2 inch of sleet and a bit of freezing rain. Still a bit more on the way but it never really cranked up here. Steady but light all evening. Not complaining though. I avoided the tree cracking fz so I'm good. NEGa
We're about to lose this tree due to heavy ice, it doesn't normally split in the middle like that. Hopefully it will make it. I have some river birches - can't see what their condition is. Last big one here in 05 took part of one of them down. The tree survived and came back well.
