Most 0z model runs trended towards a weaker and colder solution for this weekend. 0z Euro Weatherbell snow map produced 4 to 6 inches across the CTP region, including the LSV, with 5 inches at MDT.

I noticed earlier in the NYC thread that the top analog for this storm as of yesterday was 1/17/94, which was a great snow storm for CTP. We had heavy snow here, while the I-95 crew got mostly ice/ rain.

We made it home about 20 mins before the 1 minute whiteout. Looks like a dusting, roads already bare again. Weird.

Saw today MDT is at 16.3" for the season.

i've got 25" documented

wow, tomorrow looks cold. looks like half the day is in negative temps.. The weekend event looks like snow to rain at the end to me??

I don't see no end to the cold and stormy pattern thru at least 3/25.  I bet March 2015 is a -10 to -12 departure month. The models are saying no pattern change for at least several weeks.

Again I ask, what is locking this persistant and relentless pattern in? Why won't it break down? It's been a nice run for those who love winter weather, even if we didn't cash in on all the snow opportunities. It would be nice if the pattern would relax for a week or so and allow for a thaw.

It's just the trend of the winter. It is just mind boggling to me that you come into a weather site full of snow loving followers and all but beg for warmth..... when most are still prayin for our first good one. There's is tons of real estate in Florida. Just sayin

MDT recorded 1 inch for yesterday.

That brings their seasonal total to 22.6,

which is 1 inch above climo average to date.

Last year, MDT already had 42 inches to date.

I think they only ended up around 44 inches, so

we were mostly done at this point last year because those

March storms kept missing us just to our south.

I'm still a weather hobbyist, but I prefer warmth over cold and snow, mostly due to my profession. If you had to drive an 18 wheeler where just a touch of the brakes can cause a major catastrophe, you might just understand where I'm coming from...and for the record, I would love to move to a warmer climate, but in order to do so I would have to divorce my wife because she is NOT leaving the area. I knew sooner or later my weather preference would butt heads with those who love winter and snow. So be it, perhaps I'll just read more and post less.

I wouldn't consider that a serious forecast since: 1) monthly temperature departures of less than -10F are extremely rare (even January 1994 was only -8.6F at UNV), 2) it extends out 5.5 weeks into the end of March and 3) it came from the NYC forum.

It actually looks like there may be a period of moderation in the beginning of March as the PNA drops towards neutral, the AO becomes more positive and even the negative EPO weakens toward neutral.

Yeah, I did think that was a bit extreme, but used it for reference purposes. The GFS in the long term up until now has continuously showed cold through out the period. The 6z changes that as it does show moderation the 192-384 hour time frame.

Don't post less. This is a great subforum and you help provide balance. (this is coming from someone who would prefer 12 months like the last four weeks we've experienced). Primarily a lurker here, but I visit this subform because of the good-natured spirit of all the regulars.

Last winter I ended up with 19" more than MDT despite me being located just 15 miles SE of the airport.

10 degrees out now with a stiffening west breeze. It will be interesting to see if temps at least get a little above what's been progged. Late February sun often leads to busted high temps...but this will be a challenge with this air mass in place.

Steve, this is a weather forum, not just a snow lover's one. Just because you're preference is warmth over cold is no reason for you not to post. I happen to think that Joe Lundberg from AW is one of the best mets in the business, and he detests the cold. Weather is all seasons. Many on here love to track and chase severe weather, I personally hate it. Different strokes for different folks.

You live in a tough area, too, as your area doesn't really have a good home in these forums. I know you post in the Philly thread too because I go in there a lot and read what you say there. But Tamaqua is hardly like Philly climo wise. Personally, I'm glad you post here and I also happen to enjoy your warm weather-centered posts. I for one appreciate it.

As much as I love some cold and snow, this 7 day period is too much with the cold. I don't need to be below 0° that many times...no redeeming qualities after the first -10° reading which at least helps knock back invasive species.

Made it down to 1° this morning...will have to see if we can hit 0° before midnight tonight to keep the streak going.

I know, and I agree. I do realize that I live in PA, and it's going to be cold and it will snow, but it's the persistance of the cold (both this winter and last) that gets to me.

I was doing some research for the Weather World trivia contest and stumbled onto this site.  I'm sure you Penn Staters know about it but I've never seen all the official state records in one convenient spot like this before.  And some of the numbers are truly astonishing.  30.6" of rain in 6 hours right here in PA?  Holy freakin' crap!

All I'm getting at is that I wouldnt go into a storm chasing thread a and say "I hate storms".

With all due respect, the thread is titled "Mid Winter 2015", and if ever there were a place for winter enthusiast to come and play...to me thats it.

Look at the board and how it goes quite in the summer.  While many like/appreciate the summer, we do not have the passion for chasing rain, heat and humidity and moreover you WILL NOT see me posting in a summer thread begging for cold and when is it gonna get cold" type of posts (other than in occasional fun).

You obviously know a good bit about weather, but truth be told, when I see your posts....I expect the "looking for warmth and hope it doesnt snow" kinda stuff.  8 months out of the year...you get your wish and many go quiet, waiting for next fall to start the chase.

Not asking for you not to post, but just think about what I'm saying.  We get 4 short months to search for white gold, and it is a great subforum...that includes you.

BTW, I'm in sales.  I drive well over 30k a year...only on 4 wheels mind you, and the way you 18 wheelers go through this stuff...i wish i had a rig to make some sales calls.  Believe me...you win.  Not trying to compete, but we all drive in this....and some more than others.

Off to Sunbury, Selinsgrove, Lewisberg, and Williamsport if time allows.

look on the bright side....in about a month or so....I'll go away (or post less), and look forward to returning next fall.

Even though the site is run by the state climatologist office, I have found too many errors in the data to fully trust the site.  The biggest error is that there is no precip data entered for several locations that had all time records set with Agnes in 1972.  That is why I started putting together my own database but unfortunately have not had the time to finish Harrisburg yet let alone expand to other locations.
