this will be the first time since records have been kept in Central Park when both January and February averaged in the 20's after a December averaging in the 40's...this mid to late February cold wave will rival 1914, 1896, 1958, 1979...the first three had great March's while 1979 had a mild March...

Temp here at midnight was 24 so that will be the high for the day...too bad the cold air didn't rush in a little sooner before midnight like places just to our west...with temps not rising today some spots could see high temps of 10-15 degrees for the day...would think that's a record for so late in the month.

When was the last time the lower Hudson River froze over? I have an amazing view of the Hudson with sheets of ice reaching from Manhattan towards Jersey.

The cool thing is it just appeared yesterday!!! It wasn't there Friday. They used to have an ice fair on the Hudson during the little ice age. I would recommend walking on it now

There should be some pretty good ice there with temps probably not getting above freezing until next weekend.

Ice floes caused quite a bit of damage to the docks and pilings on the Hudson back in 2004 and 2005.

People forget how cold that cold air outbreak of 1994 really was.

Yea in the Shenandoah Valley in VA, we got down to about -15 to -20, parts of the state came close to setting the STATE all time record low.

DCA had a HIGH of 8F.  Pittsburgh got down to -21 and Columbus to -22.  Parts of KY down to the mid -30s?  Yea, we haven't seen anything like this outbreak since.

I also remember an outbreak in 1996 when parts of MN and ND had windchills approaching -100.

The record at NYC tomorrow is 1 in 1888 although the nam mos shows them getting there I doubt it. Record lows start to increase notably after tomorrow so I think they have a shot at a record on the 20th-22nd which are 7 5 and 8 respectively

Yea, looks like the 20th (Friday) is the best shot.
