Not sure how legit this is...but I stumbled upon this and figured I'd share. We certainly have some interesting personalities hereon the board that would make for entertaining TV. http://www.meteorologyjob.com/meteorology5.html#.VNar4yxq_H4.linkedin

I actually got a call from them last week. Going to the next round of interviews/talks tomorrow.

Important note that if you are in a broadcast/TV contract, you are not eligible. Based on the research I've done, this sounds legit. The bigger question is, will this actually materialize and be shown on a major network?

Nice...congrats! Would be cool to see someone on the board get into the final competition. Sounds like the same producer as The Voice/Apprentice on NBC...so seems like a good chance they'd be targetting TWC with this since it's also NBCUniversal these days. It would fit in right along with TWC's other crappy reality content.

Hopefully some actual meteorologists make it into the final competition. Apparently they are posting "are you a sexy weather girl," for some of the ads. Have to wonder if this turns out to be a fiasco where it's more about personality and looks than actual weather "casting."

These are the ads I've been getting... now with a $100K prize, lol.

It looks like they've been on a very aggressive campaign for contestants lately. After looking through spam folders and comments on my website, they tried to contact me from no less than three sources/members of the casting department. An old supervisor of mine also received at least two e-mails from them.

Perhaps a lack of applicants that match what they're looking for?

As much as I think this show has a lot of potential, I'm not sure the general public as a whole will feel the same way. You're obviously not going to have it be a game show format where people answer weather questions. That would bore most people, outside of the weather community and a few enthusiasts. Based of what I'm reading, perhaps contestants are thrown into random storms or situations and are expected to give an entertaining "weathercast" on the spot? Considering the filming period is only about five weeks and it's there isn't a whole lot of U.S. significant weather in March (aside from a seemingly unlikely severe weather outbreak or another New England blizzard), I'm not sure how that would work.

Something seems extremely sketchy about this whole posting.I can't quite place it.. Just seems odd to me.

well, it is being backed by Funny or Die Media. so someone like them wouldn't pull a "average joe" type of thing. maybe the thing funny about it is that maybe they didn't anticipate how many mets are looking for work and are willing to take a chance like this to get a professional job.

It's happening. My friend got selected and she leaves for LA tomorrow....

Well, that means they lied to the agent of one of my friends then who was in the running. I was misled by them on at least a few occasions too with false information. Kind of fishy.

Yeah, she is telling me it's quite fishy and not what she expected. She dropped out of the taping for a multitude of reasons stemming from that

Well being backed by Funny or Die usually tells you one thing. They are looking to make someone look stupid to get a laugh out of the viewing audience. This looks like more for comedic value than actual forecasting talent.

well, who knows. maybe it's a good thing we didn't get picked. time will tell. besides, you have to be honest, if anyone were to do a reality show like that, it would be TWC or AW.

Airing beginning August 8 on TBS:

http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/tbs-is-looking-for-americas-next-weatherman/150891

"The show will be “tweaked through the Funny Or Die prism to create an original viewing experience” to show weather hopefuls compete in physical challenges and withstand “dramatic vote-offs” all to eventually do a forecast on CNN’s New Day. They’ll also get $100,000."

A reminder that some of their final casting ads said,

"*NO WEATHER EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!"

I also find it curious that they changed the name from Weather Caster to Weatherman, even tough they clearly have multiple female contestants. It sounds like this show will indeed be more of a comedy than anything without much (if any) real meteorology.

Gotta wish good luck to Michelle rotella! Worked with her at wnep for awhile. We also went on a chase in northern PA. She's excited about the show.

Michelle is a great friend of mine! Hope she does extremely well on the show! Another guy, Miller Robson, is the morning Meteorologist at a rival station in my old TV market of Columbus, GA. Should be entertaining... haha!
