Bobby
23 degrees, light to moderate mix of ZR/SLT. 1/4"+ on the ground. Roads are horrible. Just decided both my kids have a snow day on dad.
ag3
Pure sleet storm now. Much better then ZR. Said it yesterday that this looks like mainly sleet to me.
Guest Pamela
Moderate sleet in Port Jeff...though I'm not quite sure I know the differentiating criteria between moderate & heavy sleet...
Guest Pamela
Moderate sleet in Port Jeff...though I'm not quite sure I know the differentiating criteria between moderate & heavy sleet... The 6z GFS has this going over to snow on NE LI and putting down a quick 4 inches or so...we'll see.
gravitylover
I just walked to my corner to see what the hill looks like and there are four cars piled into each other and two more on the front lawns of the houses there. Good thing I decided not to go to work at 5 this morning when the call came telling us that schools are closed today. 18* with a significant ice coating under a bunch of sleet and it has been snowing (sideways) moderately on and off for the last few hours. Total accumulations can't possibly describe how ugly it is out there.

mob1
The freezing rain earlier has turned to sleet, which isn't nearly as slippery.
Big Jims Videos
In a break here in morristown. Not bad downtown but haven't seen the hilly side streets yet.
Mophstymeo
Of course smh thats NYC for you Tell me about it. I work in a school that follows the public schools when it comes to snow days. It's days like this when that policy is beyond frustrating. As bizarre as it sounds, I'm just glad I'm sick.

Wild Turkey
Seems like a decent-sized lull at the moment. Are we expecting much more with the next batch? Everything covered in ice/sleet in Ringwood, but the sleet on top actually makes it not that slippery.
Snowshack
Off and on light sleet, 23F. Never had any liquid precip.
ag3
Its a disaster outside. Everything is covered with ice. Not really. I just drove throughout the NYC boroughs and all highways and main roads are salted and very driveable and side roads are caked in sleet, which is not as bad as ZR. ag3
6z GFS says .50"-.75" for SWCT and .25"-.50"+ for NYC, LI and NNJ. YEAH OK. What a terrible forecast by an upgraded GFS.
gravitylover
I dunno about that. I haven't measured liquid equivalent but this stuff is super dense. Wouldn't surprise me at all if that's really close.
