bluewave
We have entered a snowy 30/31 day period which began on 1/24/15 and are only 12 days into this 30/31 day stretch. There is plenty of time to add to the current snowfall totals which are already impressive at several local climate sites. I will start the thread off with JFK snowfall data from 1960 to the present time. Feel free to add any of the other major local climate sites from Newark to Brookhaven. You can even add your own personal weather site for as long as you have kept it. Snowiest 31 day periods at JFK since 1960 1/14/61-2/13/61....40.7" 1/15/78-2/14/78....32.9" 12/09/95-1/8/96....32.3" 1/27/03-2/28/03....32.1" 1/28/10-2/27/10....30.5" 1/21/14-2/20/14....29.4" 2/1/94-3/2/94........27.3" 12/26/10-1/25/11...26.9" 2/1/83-3/3/83........24.7 2/2/69-3/3/69........24.1" 2/2/96-3/3/96........23.9" 2/29/60-3/30/60.....22.1" 1/29/67-2/28/67.....21.0" 1/24/15-2/23/15....19.2"...so far 12/30/00-1/29/01..18.7" 1/20/79-2/19/79....18.6" http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/IPS/lcd/lcd.html?_page=1&state=NY&stationID=94789&_target2=Next+%3E Link to find other local climate sites http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/IPS/lcd/lcd.html
JBG
I'm surprised the 2010-1 period doesn't rank higher. Is it different at KNYC?
yhbrooklyn
I guess it's technically 31 days, but NYC had 56.0" from 12/26-1/26 in winter 2010-2011. JFK measured 37.9" in Dec-Jan that season, I have to imagine most of it was in that same 30 day period.

bluewave
I put together the snowiest 31 day periods at Islip going back to 1984. The data in the early 2000's is incomplete and I had to add up the available snowfall totals from the available NWS storm reports. So the 2003 numbers are incomplete. The big story this year is that Islip is already in third place for the 1/24/15-2/23/15 period snowfall totals with plenty of time to move up. Also note the very high number of over 20" and 30" 31 day snowfall totals in the 2000's. 1/21/14-2/20/14.....37.9" 2/6/13-3/8/13.........35.7" 1/24/15-2/23/15.....33.1" so far 12/26/10-1/25/11...31.4" 12/19/09-1/18/10...31.1" 12/10/95-1/8/96.....30.3" 2/20/05-3/21/05.....28.0" 1/15/06-2/14/06.....24.6" 2/2/96-3/2/96.........24.0" 2/1/03-3/3/03.........22.3"..incomplete estimate 2/2/94-3/2/94.........22.0" 2/1/10-3/3/10.........22.0" 1/17/05-2/16/05.....21.4" 1/12/04-2/11/04.....19.5" 12/1/03-12/31/03...18.0" incomplete estimate http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/IPS/lcd/lcd.html?_page=1&state=NY&stationID=04781&_target2=Next+%3E
bluewave
LGA is already at 23.4" since 1/24/15 with plenty of time to add to the 31 day totals until 2/23/15. If anyone wants to compile the snowiest 31 days for LGA link is provided. http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/IPS/lcd/lcd.html?_page=1&state=NY&stationID=14732&_target2=Next+%3E
Rjay
Is there a 31 day period somewhere in here that's has higher amounts? 2/1/14-3/3/14.........25.3" 1/1/14-1/31/14.......25.2'
Snowshack
Surprising to me that the top 5 periods at JFK average slightly higher than the top 5 at Islip. Would have thought Islip easily outperformed JFK. Interesting list Bluewave.

I originally scanned them as calendar month periods. 1/21/14-2/20/14 is the leader since 1984 with 37.9". The Islip post has been edited to reflect the change. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.
