RU848789
Back to my crusade to get people to think more about snowfall and snowpack mass and not depth, since mass is far more indicative of total precip contained in the snowpack and how long it will take to melt. So, we've had 5.2", 7" ("blizzard"), 1", and 4" (today), plus about 3/4" of rain today, which was absorbed by the snowpack. That's about 1.8" liquid equivalent, assuming an average of 10:1 ratio snow to LE, less whatever melted in the past week, which likely wasn't much (maybe 0.4"?), for 1.4" LE in about a 7" snowpack - lots of compaction today with the freezing rain/rain. LongBeachSurfFreak
Nice solid foot out here. and the rain soaked nicely In the pack from the blizzard. I shoveled a path to my truck today and anything below the powder from the late day band is super heavy. One of the top five most robust packs in my life. It would take a couple days in the 50s or a major cutter to kill it. The near flooding early yesterday frozen solid. So the higher precip totals are now part of the pack. If we hang on to what we have and then add with the late weekend storm we are into record territory
SnoSki14
The snow is like concrete now and there's no warm air in sight. Today might actually be the warmest day for the next 2 weeks (Sat could come close) and it's only in the low 40s or slightly above climo.
LongBeachSurfFreak
Down at jones beach right now and there is very little snow. The only real snow is drifts left over from the blizzard. These onshore winds are like our equivalent of chinook winds on the high plains. I have noticed over the years the difference between long beach and the southern stet can be drastic and this is exactly why. Last year was incredible with mega pack on the north shore and a third on the south shore
