famartin
I guess it'll be for the immediate suburbs then. It's around 30F or 31F around the city. All the official stations on LI are reading 33 except Montauk. EWR and everywhere in central NJ is above freezing. North of the city, its still snow. famartin
Wire is dripping outside, no icicles forming on trees and don't hear icing sounds. How can that be 31 degree ZR falling and no glazing ???? Very confused. This is Seaford Massapequa area ?? Tree looks dry, no glazing and no dripping. Sounds like rain. All official LI stations are reading 33 except Montauk. This would suggest your thermometer has a slight cold bias.

Based on the model progs of the warm push and the radar elevation at the city, its more likely that the melt layer is actually a bit lower than the radar beam. Unusual to be sure. Here are the METARs which tell a slightly different picture: KNYC 020951Z 12009G16KT 2 1/2SM -SN BR OVC005 01/M01 A2968 RMK AO2 CIG 004V009 SLP043 P0013 T00061011 Central Park, light snow, but since its an un-augmented ASOS, likely its a lot of sleet (ASOS by itself cannot report sleet, it gets misidentified as snow, rain, freezing rain or unknown). This is also suggested by the rather high visibility (2 and a half miles). KLGA 020951Z 08012KT 1/2SM R04/P6000FT -RASNPL BR OVC008 01/M01 A2967 RMK AO2 SFC VIS 1 RAB41PLB0857 SLP047 P0021 T00061006= LaGuardia's primary precipitation type is light rain, with snow and sleet mixed in. Based on the METAR, sleet should actually be least dominant, but the program extracting those for the roundup obviously is keyed to notice the sleet most prominently. Tower visibility is a half mile with surface visibility of a mile.
