nzucker
Mix line seems to be slowing a bit as it crosses the city, and maybe retreating in northern Brooklyn. Still heavy snow here in Dobbs Ferry. Really piling up. I'd estimate we're close to 4.5"...ridiculous scene now!
abracadabra
It seems that the mix line arrived in the city right alongside with the heaviest band. Is it a sad coincidence or is the heaviest band fake and just reflecting the mixing line.

Is it a sad coincidence or is the heaviest band fake and just reflecting the mixing line. radar.jpg It's not a coincidence...the mix line represents the 850mb warm front in most cases, so there is increased frontogenesis ahead of that boundary. Also, the heavy echoes on radar are usually bright-banding from sleet...that's why you see the yellow where it is mixing, because sleet reflects the radar beam more and causes the precipitation to show up as heavier. Thanks I figured it should be the reflection of sleet but the yellow band wasn't there (or not as well developed) before it approached the city so I thought it might be something else. Ps. Based on how that band is proceeding the mix line really slowed down and stalling right above the boroughs now.
