blizzardof96
I've been getting rocked by a squall for the past 30-45 minutes. The MTO cams look really bad once you get east of Bayview/Leslie. 40dbz squall line moving through the east end.

blizzardof96
+SN right now - is this lake Effect? Good dynamics right now from the deepening ULL so that is probably why were seeing more intense banding then a usual clipper. The banding is mostly frontal/CAA induced with some Lehs from Huron/GB. blizzardof96
Squall line looks to be dipping almost due south. Vis is going to become significantly reduced over the next 45 minutes or so.

Wind chill forecast from EC for tomorrow is -39 so it'll be close. Either way I can't remember that kind of brutal cold in mid-February.

The banding is mostly frontal/CAA induced with some Lehs from Huron/GB. Reports on twitter said we got 5cm in 35 min. Not too sure how accurate that is, but we've had at least 10cm since yesterday. It was a nice fluffy surprise this morning.

blizzardof96
Cold should be more intense tonight and the HRDPS has a ridiculous -31 downtown. Model spread from -25 to -32.
blizzardof96
Did some stat mongering this morning. YYZ has dipped AOB -30c twice since 1979, four times since 1950 and six times since 1938.

snowstormcanuck
With what's going on in Boston, I did a bit of light research regarding Toronto's recent intensely snowy stretches. Unsurprisingly, we haven't had many. The King is obvious. Runner up (Feb/early March 2008) was a nice stretch but is not even close as far as cm/day is concerned. January 2-15, 1999 (14 days): 113.2cm (8.1cm/day) January 31-March 11, 2008 (41 days): 118.7cm (2.9cm/day) December 5, 2000-January 9, 2001 (35 days): 86.4cm (2.5cm/day) January 1-February 13, 1994 (44 days): 90.4cm (2.1cm/day) December 24, 1996-January 31, 1997 (39 days): 82.4cm (2.1cm/day)

Where do you go to get the record highs/lows for downtown, apart from perusing all the data year by year on the EC website?

on_wx
University of Waterloo was sitting at -30.2 at 215. Looks like it's crashed and gone offline at the most inconvenient time! on_wx
Now -31.8C. Wish I knew Waterloo's all time coldest temp. UW is about to smash the Kitchener record of -31.9. IIRC there is 40m elevation difference from UW and YKF -32.2 in 2005 is the coldest temp to be recorded at UW since 1998. Now -31.9. Wikipedia says the Kitchener record is -31.9 which was in 1984 on the "Waterloo Wellington A" station, and UW is -32.2 in 2005. The "Kitchener" weather station coldest temp ever is -33.9 in Feb 1934 with readings from 1914-1977.
