Juliancolton
Bizarre as it sounds, this sleet is particularly dense stuff. I melted my .5" of sleet into .33" of water, which surprised me, but then I remembered how poor snowgrowth was this afternoon. I guess small flakes = small sleet pellets = high-density accumulations. snywx
Good snow ratios needed with those totals. Ouch Those totals are for a 15 hr event lol.. Its pretty much a non-event unless we see a dramatic N trend in the next 12-18 hrs.

Too bad it was a tease Just another hour of two would have been great. I think we've seen every conceivable wintry phenomenon this season except for sustained heavy snowfall. Ah well. PB GFI
You beat me to it.. Bumped north from 12z thats for sure. Lets see if it continues There is a 2nd wave that the models are seeing . The Euro saw it 1st , the NAM has it and so does the RGEM . So there is a push N . I hope it continues . But even with less precip you may rip with decent ratios

gravitylover
What was the "start date" for this snowy period, 1/20 or 24?
Juliancolton
What was the "start date" for this snowy period, 1/20 or 24? I picked up 4.3" on the 24th, so that's when the pack started growing in earnest. I don't even remember what that system was like... this stretch is definitely more memorable than the sum of its parts.

Juliancolton
What a weird sensation out there. The stiff southerly breeze feels warm, by no exaggeration. The glaze is already starting to melt.

gravitylover
Ugly ugly ugly. It's too bad I shoveled the crunchy stuff off last night before the rain. At least there would be some sort of traction and it would have been removable. Now it's a sheet of water ice and it's not gonna give up easily. A neighbor that didn't scrape it last night is out there chopping it up and it's coming up in big sheets. Lotsa salt
IrishRob17
With that much sleet last night the increase to snow piles and banks will be exponential.
IrishRob17
The clean up this morning is sure to push whoever may be on the ledge for this winter off it. You gotta love having to break through the top layer of ice to get to the snow below and then watch the snow you just threw onto the pile slide down the ice and right back into your driveway...not! White Gorilla
Expecting an inch or 2 at best tonight before we get a long period of no storminess. I am truly happy about it. The fringe jobs are old and we have a good enough pack. Not sure if we can squeeze out another snow event, but I would not mind if Spring started full throttle tomorrow. Unless we get a last minute surprise later this month, I will rate this winter a B+. Despite a double digit snowpack and exceeding our normal,, the lack of a single double digit storm with majority of events having us look south and east for the darker blues will never make this into an A range winter. Most snow events have underperformed. So, I will leave this winter feeling grateful for some things, but also feeling disappointed by others. chietanen
Measured 19.5" of snowpack this morning. Solid for this point in the year. The nearly inch of sleet and freezing rain on top should be a nice help in preserving it a little longer.
BxEngine
The new snow absorbed most of the rain so i doubt i lost too much if anything...my car was encrusted this morning.
