jburns
yikes! Too early on a Friday night, are you older than burns? Jk. My bed time is usually 3 am. I eat dinner around 8 pm. You're going to have to find someone else for age stereotypes.
jburns
Anybody have an idea how ratios affect virga duration? If the virga lasts for more than four hours, contact a meteorologist immediately.

lookingnorth
Yes, that's why it's fun to track. We live is a place where it's possible(but not probable) to get a winter storm. Very addicting... For that reason I want to move somewhere where snow is common sometime. That way model watching will be less stressful and I'll be able to simply enjoy it when it comes, because I know there'll be plenty of followup opportunities if the first storm misses. superjames1992
Trying to temper my excitement... It's usually best to give in and enjoy the ride to glory... or the cliff. --- BTW, sucks to hear that, Bevo. Hopefully, a winter storm will at least dull the pain a little. tazaroo
The GFS has been all over the place the last 6 runs went from apps to suppression to amped inland runner. I don't buy it just yet.

weatherfide
LOL, doesn't matter , we are pros of cold rain :-). Our time will come in a few years. Oh, really? Are you moving to Maine? Here's how I see it for just south of Atlanta. A light rain starting Monday with a few pellets of sleet mixed in at onset. Cold rain until ending Thursday afternoon. Turning very cold for Wednesday morning (black ice may be an issue). I'm hoping for the next piece of northern stream energy to produce snow on Thursday night. Not giving it much of a chance, though, maybe 5%. I've seen this winter before and this is very common. Been through these in the 90's.

sparklecity
GFS has 999 Low just inland around Myrtle Beach. Wow! Really starts to bomb out as it is a 987 on the next frame. Hopefully the GFS warm bias is in play here with the upstate. I think if we can get the low to track 50 miles or so further south than it is showing, we are golden! toxictwister00
I don't know if it's blind optimism or ignorant blissfulness, or a combination of both, but I know I'm still ecstatic to see how things unfold Monday morning. Don't know how much or how little snow, sleet, or freezing is coming this way. I've been waiting all winter to bring my favorite avatar pic back for a legit SE winter storm! YetAnotherRDUGuy
Aren't we just supposed to be looking at the models for the overall pattern when it's 48+ hours away? And then zeroing in on the details--including precip type--when it's within 48 hours? I swear, some of ya'll give me heartburn.
