cleared the driveway and sidewalks, cleared a path for the dog, and it started sleeting and Freezing rain. it lasted about 10 minutes and covered the ground again. the wind really started to pick up and the snow was starting to drift, even though it was a heavy wet snow.

If you had a million cameras on you, you'd cast a shadow, too.

LOL! Not to mention a couple thousand loud, crazy drunks. I would hide in my hole too. One of the dumbest events I've ever gone to.

Roads are a mess this is going to be an interesting afternoon...putting it mildly.

How much did my parents' stomping grounds of Danville get?

I'm sure this mostly applies to those of us in the southern half of the state, but we need to keep expectations low for the upcoming weekend. Horst just updated to say that without blocking, we need to have the perfect track in order to get a moderate storm. Outside of track and timing, we'll see more of what we saw last night, and most of the winter.

Is it just me or is the zone from NYC to DC including interior areas one of the hardest areas to forecast in the country (or the world for that matter) when it comes to winter? Is it the unique blend of the Gulf, the Atlantic and Arctic chill that sets us up for events like this past one or is it just the fact that there are millions of people in these areas so it gets more press than the same situations would elsewhere?

Just curious to hear thoughts on this.

I would say a little of both. Forecasters in the midwest for example don't have to account for coastal redevelopment, CAD, etc. And the high concentration of population means that a 50 mile shift in the track of a storm changes the outcome for tens of millions of people.

O - No not another storm where we need the prefect track....

I think we all down here have no expectations to begin with. :)

And that, is one of the reasons I moved away from Lancaster. I grew up in Wiest Willow near Cherry Hill Orchards. Got so tired of always being "on the line". I sure do miss Lancaster County food though! That area is so blessed with local restaurants and foods.

Absolutely howling here at the Ville. My windows are shaking

Down to 31/21 after 39/34 at 210. Flash freeze will be a common theme down here

Any snow left on the ground there? I graduated from Penn Manor, so am very familiar with the area. I don't often respond on here, but I enjoy reading all your updates!

Thanks I appreciate it! Yes, there is snow left around here. The south facing areas of course have much less, but shady regions and north facing spots are still a few inches. They will glacier up tonight due to the high water content of the snow.

Penn Manor is a very nice school. Very large as well. Reminds me of my HS back home north of Baltimore.

Hey! I know exactly where Pine View is. I grew up on a hill very close to Pine View, overlooking Pequea Elementary School. Neighborhood called "Enchanted Acres"  I loved going to Pine View and getting the bagged milk, and also eating ice cream while checking out the cows.

I'll tell you...that area gets some WICKED thunderstorms. I can't tell you how many times lightning hit our house and wind knocked down trees in our yard. I loved where I grew up, because it was pretty much the start of the "Southern hills", and I could see Marticville Elementary and clear down to the Buck. Also fun watching those severe storms rolling in off the hills from Southern York County. 34 inches of snow during the Blizzard of 96...all those things got me interested in the weather. Definitely holds a place in my heart.

Now I live somewhere that averages 100 inches of snow a year...MUCH more to my liking. :)

Penn Manor is huge. 1800 students when I graduated in 2000...my class had 450 students. I got to be in the brand new high school during my school years there.

Hanging at 37 here under overcast skies at the moment. I guess the front didn't quite get to me yet. I hope we get some wind with it. The roads are wet everywhere and a bit slushy in isolated spots. Anything that doesn't dry is going to be a sheet of ice.

Down from 37 at 2:30pm to 24 at 4:30pm. Thirteeen degrees in 2 hours.
