I'm definitely concerned about reaching the higher end of our snow potential.  A tongue of mild, saturated air shot up over central and eastern Iowa this afternoon.  It has been raining for a couple hours after a couple hours of drizzle.  The temp/dewpoint has been stuck on 37/36 all afternoon and none of the stations around the area are showing any sign of change.  My rain total is approaching 0.10" and it may continue to rain for a few more hours.  Every tenth we get is an inch of snow off our total.  The air is drier over in northern Illinois so they should see a quicker changeover.

I've been busy all day preparing the city/county for the storm. Just got out of a briefing with the mayor, police and fire chiefs, commissioners, co. hiway super, etc., updating them on what to expect. Thanks to all posters here (along with the NWS) in helping me present an accurate account of what's to come.

Took awhile to catch up on all of the posts. The only thing I'm missing is Tim and Alek not posting their thoughts.

Patience...  It will changeover later.  Possibly around 6:30 or 7 PM.

Radar returns on the doorstep here.  I think we'll probably start as rain but I'm not sure.  Assuming we start as rain, it should mix with/change to snow before long and then the question is whether there is a lull later tonight as some models have been suggesting.

What "winter storm name" will this one get in America? They always have the oddest names.. Juno, Nemo...

I nominate Winter Storm "Laverna"... the Roman goddess of thieves... stealing moisture from 2 different bodies of water and stealing the "credibility" (or what's left..) of the Canadian weather agency...

Linus.

And yes, when I heard that, A Charlie Brown Christmas was the first thing that came to mind...

DVN is down to 33/31 as of 00z. Based on correlation coefficient on dual pol, melting layer on KDVN is just 1500-2500 feet AGL. Wonder if some of the hilly spots near the river are already snowing. I'd expect the QCA to transition within the next 1-2 hrs.

Cleared a spot around the snowboard and half the deck...ready to measure a lot of snow!

Interesting. Back when I used a snowboard I always placed it on top of any snowpack. I felt if it rested below the average surface of the snow, even a bit, it was prone to contamination from drifting. Just a hunch though. No scientific evidence to back me up.

Started as snow. Kinda surprised.

I've decided to not subject the board with my angst-ridden posts. It's a win-win for everybody. But, hoping for the best here. It's not going to be easy (or pretty) in the LAF this time. Good luck up there my friend. :)
