Hoosier
If latest model projections come to fruition, then based on what I can tell, this could be one of the more widespread/significant snowstorms to strike the region right on game day. There have been some decent storms over the years. Last year, there was a series of waves that moved across the region with the Sunday wave doing most of its work in the Ohio Valley. Probably one of the more memorable ones of recent vintage happened in 2008...memorable because it was accompanied by prolific thunder/lightning. For anyone who wants to dig into past weather on Super Bowl Sunday, here's a list of all Super Bowl dates courtesy of NFL.com. I'm old enough to remember the Blizzard of 78 well and am still waiting to experience thundersnow. One of these days...

michsnowfreak
In addition to the 1977 storm, Detroit had a 7.6" snowstorm on Jan 13/14, 1968. The hyped Superbowl Storm of 2006 only dropped 1.9" of snow at DTW
Chinook
Wasn't there an ice storm that was almost during the Super Bowl in Atlanta (2000) ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Bowl_XXXIV
hm8
The hyped Superbowl Storm of 2006 only dropped 1.9" of snow at DTW Talked to someone at DTX about that. There was some bad data from the upper Midwest somewhere ingested into the models the day before the storm or so. They went back and retroactively ran some models without that data and the forecast was much more accurate.

Sorry but I have fond memories of that 2006 Superbowl ... 9" of snow and the Steelers win ... good times If I recall it was the my largest snowstorm for MBY in 05/06.
