eaglesin2011
I Would def say you will be close to the jackpot area... Again if the sleet holds off there.... You def can tell that the transfer and dry air is working its way quick now west to east... Just when the heavy precip was about to make it in looks like its getting cut off by the dry air in western NC and stay a bit south of this area... gonna be a sharp cut off soon for allot of people for a bit....Hopfully it will backfill again http://www.weather.com/weather/map/interactive/l/23059:4:US?animation=true&interactiveMapLayer=radar

VBsurf
HRRR completely wrong here. 50:50 snow sleet Same here pushing all sleet. 3.5" as of 1130. Noticed the wind has switched to back to ENE from a period of SE winds. Data is from the Cape henry buoy. Hopefully it can go more North so we can start to cool the upper layers to get us a period of snow before ending?
Midlo Snow Maker
Great event so far flakes have been small but intense. Heaviest snow in the last hour
eaglesin2011
Allot bigger flakes now starting to come down here in the west end... how far up has the sleet gotten?
SoCoWx
Huh. Radar has filled in, with more heavy stuff to the southwest...but looking out the window now, the storm seems to have slowed to a stray flurry here and there. I'm on Broad Street in downtown Richmond.
VABILLUPS1
Sleet has arrived in Va. Beach.
Fodie77
Strange storm. Never thought you could get half a foot with pixie dust. Now is when we really need that coastal to start turning. The back building can only save us for so long.
eaglesin2011
Yeah backfill still going on...Snow jumping back and fourth from large to small flakes, still has been a mostly steady but light snow here in the west end.. ..At least it keeps adding up that total... VBsurf
WOW. Cape Hatteras went from 32 at 951pm to 53 at 1151pm with a 33mph gust out of the south!

VABILLUPS1
Temp's coming up quick too. I'm up to 26.
VBsurf
All freezing rain now. Where I cleared the snow of my table it is a solid sheet of ice. If we stay below freezing this could get real bad with how much is downstream. By the way it looks Im not sure we can though.
SoCoWx
Snow has completely stopped over this part of Broad Street. That back end over the apps just isn't consolidating very well. Very sparse with lots of dry patches. Hopefully things will tighten up in the next few hours...
eaglesin2011
Been very light here in the west end the last hour..... Some reports close to here in the West End said they have had sleet mix in already ....
SoCoWx
I was hoping we'd have a few more hours, as predicted...but it's gone quiet...and that back side still isn't filling in a whole lot. Looking at the radar on AccuWeather's site, it shows the heavy snow down in Raleigh. Not sure how accurate that is, given there's is supposed to be all ice. mikeeng92
The only snow reports out of NC are far west, Raleigh is sleet. Looks like the sleet has made it to RIC metro. It should crash back south as the coastal takes over and then maybe we can get another couple inches.
SoCoWx
The folks in the main thread say the coastal is taking over now...and I'm not seeing any radar improvement. But eh, I'm not a meteorol

Inudaw
How bad is the icing down by the Hampton Roads area now? Radar looks intense down there.Very light sleet here in east in of Henrico. Missing the heavier returns here.
SoCoWx
So, is this over for Richmond now? Because if it is, I'm going to bed. Definitely not anywhere close to what several sources forecast...but some spots did crack the low end of the predictions, so...

Missing the heavier returns here. Its pretty bad. Everything has a glaze. I think the saving grace is that when we get under heavier returns its more sleet than freezing rain. eaglesin2011
Anyone been on the roads in the past hour in the area? Any reports? Def gotta be nasty with the sleet/snow in most places now
Inudaw
Pretty interesting.. I cleared half my measuring area in a perfect vertical slice. Not much sleet has accumulated.. (maybing approaching a .2 now... ) but you can see the sleet settling into the snow earlier and compacting it making a nice layer formation.
