They probably didn't count the sleet as well.

I think it's too early to really toot the horn. And since the afternoon CLI is preliminary, it's possible it's an old report sent to Wakefield earlier in the day. We won't know until CLI is sent at around 1:30am or unless they send a report in a PNS this evening.

We did break a daily snowfall record though....so that's good news.

About wrapping up.

14.5" snow depth.

Yesterday  5" snow before change over

2.5"  snow/sleet over night

9" new snow today.

Storm total 16.5"

And airport reported only 1 addition inch from 12:54 to 6:54  off of .43 inches liquid equivalent.

Total precip today at airport from 7 a.m. till now

0.67 inches

At a 10:1 ratio that is a minimum of 6.7"

The snow depth at that time was 6.   Should be at least 12.7" official imo.

If the airport finds a way to mess this up yet again I can guarantee you that Wakefield will be hearing from an army of weather weenies, including myself. It is totally unacceptable for a government agency to continually hire contractors that are unable to perform their job. Every time I've discussed this issue with someone at the office they have sounded totally disinterested. That is disconcerting to me, as historical weather data, including snowfall totals, matter in more ways than any of us can imagine.

And that's with surface temps in the mid 20's all day. Not like the usual 30-32 degree snow. Everything should have been sticking at at least a 10:1 ratio. No way less than 6" fell off that amount of liquid!

I do feel the office has an obligation to ensure it's correct and not just accept erroneous reports. There should be some type of screening process. I think the FAA only cares about what impacts planes taking off and landing, not really going out the way to measure what's on the ground. They are not meteorologists or even climate gurus so I wish they could go back to the old days when the FAA was not involved. Taking a look at the QPF and the rest of the obs, I can agree that things do not add up....I think numbers in the 12-13" range sounds more reasonable for a storm total.

What an absolutely incredible afternoon!!!! I was beyond S++ at times. Visibilities reduced to approximately 250' during the heaviest of the snows.

This was the first snow in our new home, so my initial measuring location was terrible; too much blowing off the roof. So, this afternoon, I took measurements around the back yard (still hard pan dirt, so no grass measurement) at 1500 and recorded 11". We received another 2+ hours of 2-3" rates and I measured average snow depth of 16.8" around my backyard. One last band to go, so, perhaps another 1"?

Easily the best storm I have experienced since moving to Richmond as this was the best I have seen since 1996's 38" in my yard.

What. A. Day. Hard to believe I woke up a little depressed over the early changeover to sleet last night. It is a little but disappointing to realize we lost about .6 to .7" qpf to sleet but today more than makes up for it. Incredible.

Amherst got dry slotted bad 10 inches total and almost all of that came in the front end after that snowed to the north the east and the west of us for the rest of the storm and had nothing but wind here unbelievably disappointing storm for me. If anybody could explain what went wrong I would appreciate it
