SEVAsNOwSTORM
18z NAM is looking nasty for SE VA. Last time I remember seeing an ice storm like this was in the early 90s. We could be in big trouble.. Have to hope it's mostly sleet at this time.

rmcwahoo
Hope to see this thread en fuego with serious snow reports come tomorrow afternoon through Tuesday afternoon.
SeVa
AKQ is quite bullish with this event with 4-6 down here. You guys in RIC should be feeling pretty good about this one regarding to potential for tainting or the lack thereof. HR looks to be right on the snow-sleet battle line. We'll hold the line as best we can for you RIC folks.
feb11th1983
looks like Richmond may not have sleeting problems.... still worried though. Hope we can get a nice 8 inch dump in Midlothian.
Inudaw
Yea I am wondering how much ice areas in the Tidewater and Hampton road area will get....
mikeeng92
Looks like sleet makes it to downtown Richmond for a couple hours on the NAM? Can someone ask the DC guys if we can get all snow
mitchnick
Richmond off the NAM Hour 30 at 800mb is where there may be an issue of course, you don't know what goes on in between the mb heights on this list so you'll still need to look at a skewt http://68.226.77.253/text/NAM80km/NAM_kric.txt
Fodie77
I've already accepted that we'll get a couple hours of sleet mixed in. At this point, I'm hoping for a 4-6 type event with no worrying over whether what falls will stick to the ground. That alone will make this one of the best RIC events in a few years. I used to want the jackpot, but after all the misses we've had, I've given up on being greedy.
eaglesin2011
May get thundersnow here in the Richmond area for the 2nd time in one week.. When was the last time that happened with 2 different storms back to back here?... Good bet that this one will lead to more the a tenth of an inch this time...ha
SeVa
Just posted below in SE thread... RGEM keeps trending better snowfall wise for Va-NC border. It also keeps moving the heavier snow axis further South with each run. On the other hand, it keeps tightening the gradient on the southern edge especially in western and eastern areas. From model site here... On SnowGoose's recommendation, I am 100% invested in this model.

Fodie77
Close to gametime. My final guess (snow only): RIC: 6" CHO: 7" ORF: 2" ROA: 10" Could definitely be low balling. I'm hoping we get some insane ratios to juice these totals up. Let's do this!!!
eaglesin2011
Dry air and where the sleet mixes in this area is going to really determine the higher totals... Radar Looks nice but battling the dry air & sleet always seem find a way in around here the earlier start the more snow most likely .....Still looks to bring the biggest event for many of us in the past few years... SeVa
Close to gametime. My final guess (snow only): RIC: 6" CHO: 7" ORF: 2" ROA: 10" Could definitely be low balling. I'm hoping we get some insane ratios to juice these totals up. Let's do this!!! All the local outlets calling for 4-6 down here. So I would imagine RIC doing considerably better. 8+ IMO. Fodie77
All the models still have RIC a little above or below 1" QPF. Man, if we can get that sleet line to hold south, we could get some awesome totals, especially with 15:1 ratios.
mikeeng92
12z NAM, RGEM, and GFS look great for RIC metro, haven't checked to see how far NW the sleet goes.

Portsmouth Weather
Continuing to look better and better for Richmond and Se Va. Looking at the HRR it has a nice tongue of snow showing up before the main show in our areas that will up snow totals. And it appears all if not most models are trending slightly south and colder! gymengineer
Is Richmond's last 12" storm 1/25/00 or did the airport's 1/30/10 total get changed?
miller.b.time
Coming down pretty well in CHO. 18/-7. All surfaces receiving a coating now. Starting to worry about location here. Looks like RAP and HRRR both want to kill the moisture CHO and NW. I guess we'll wait and see, but it's setting my weenie heart to thumpin'.
