winterwxfan
Short pump back to all sleet too
rmcwahoo
Kind of feels like an old time Richmond bust. Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, DC all get great snow....Richmond stays sleet even in heavy bands and then it quickly moves out. Ugh
SoCoWx
Wouldn't be at all surprising. We did fairly well the last two times, so given that this is likely the last winter threat until next season...yeah, not surprising for this one to fizzle out. SoCoWx
Would like to know though, if it's ever going to change over to snow. Sleet is boring to watch.
winterwxfan
Back to huge fluffy flakes, accumulating, see how long it lasts!
rmcwahoo
80/20 snow to sleet now in west end of city. Feel like it needs to stay snow for anything to really happen today
Shadowzone
Tiny sleet pellets and big fattie snow flakes have been battling for superiority in Hanover County - 4 miles north of I-295 and just east of Rt 301. Right now it is flaky - but has changed back to sleet twice in the last hour.
rmcwahoo
Giant snow flakes in Richmond. Still some sleet but man really coming down
eaglesin2011
Would be a inch an hour rate easy right now if the sleet would hold off..Just can't seem to shake the sleet.. Prob haven't even gotten over an inch yet total here in the West End Glen Allen.. Right now freezing rain is mixing in with the sleet snow... Roads r gonna be a mess once the Temps crash
SoCoWx
Poor Richmond. It is trying so hard to snow. Hahaha.
SoCoWx
And back to mostly sleet on Broad Street. That lasted all of five minutes.
SoCoWx
Problem obviously is that the temperature just isn't crashing fast enough. Typical set up. Moisture moving out faster than cold air can move in. We're hovering just a little above freezing..
rmcwahoo
I'm below freezing but yep, sleet continues. Dumb storm for the Richmond area, we're the board losers for this one.
eaglesin2011
Wouldnt give up just yet.. Still could bring a quick few inches if the sleet shakes out.. Also the back edge in WV is kinda redeveloping of course prob will die out again before it gets over the mountains..... Flash freeze in untreated areas is most likely gonna be pretty bad into the early morning hours....
rmcwahoo
It's our last storm of the season. Precip all the way back to WVA. Maybe we get lucky. I'll stay optimistic with you!
CentralVaGirl
Back to all sleet And below freezing all day tomorrow. Hope the bird food holds out. At least it's not freezing rain.
SeVa
At least sleet is better than cold rain... That transition line has been hanging tough. No matter what the models show we need cold air entrenched before the storm. Cold just never seems to filter down in time.
eaglesin2011
Starting to think that 2nd band is prob be our best chance for a accumulating snow in this area if it holds together.... Decent band coming threw here now in the west end but sleet still hanging tough so far..
rmcwahoo
Pretty good snow in Richmond now. Maybe we can add an inch to our base of pure ice
eaglesin2011
Yeah looks like a full changeover at last here in he West End... Now we just need some good backfill to take place quick.. We are on the tail end if nothing makes it over the mountains... ugh.. ha ha
SoCoWx
Yep. Finally snowing in downtown RIC. Looks like the band producing this snow is narrow, though. Maybe that other band over WV can make it across the mountains and come our way.
eaglesin2011
Well that looks like about it out here in the West End unless we get a passing snow shower from the cold front out west in a few hours... but it really looks like its drying out now, so I wouldnt count on much from it ...... Id say we made it to a heathly INCH here... At least it looks better then it did with just sleet on the ground... HA
Shadowzone
Made it to 2 inches with the nice burst at dinner time.

Midlo Snow Maker
3.90" in the last few days a 3 rounds of the thunderstorms. Warmest dec hi min set but still a few hours to go for the official numbers. Horrible Xmas season weather wise
Midlo Snow Maker
What was the high at RIC? Record breaking?bust from the near 80 forecasts we hit 70 missed it by 1 . Funny part is we hit 70 at 12:22am and could not get to 71 all day for the tie
Midlo Snow Maker
3.90" of rain the last week, 3 record hi's 2 record hi mins both monthly records, a/c has been on for days what a disaster of a December. Shadowzone
Picture of our pond (near Hanover High School) and how the water flowed around the dam on Dec 24. The water rose about 6 inches higher a couple of hours later - totally above the drain pipe fixture.
