Wow
Not that it really matters, but it's ridiculously cold, too. The NC Piedmont is in the teens! Stay away from the snow maps.. they are insane. LOL
rduwx
The GFS and GGEM look like a classic AL and GA snow event at 108-120 Yes they do...I just had a look at the GGEM.
strongwxnc
12 hours ( so far) of snow for a lot of folks. Makes sense, as I am running a half marathon at south mountain state park in the 28th Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

superjames1992
The 00z GGEM has a moderate event for NC on 2/25. Gotta think we cash in on one of these events... The chances are pretty good. Fab Feb will go out with a bang.
griteater
00z UKMet at 144 looks similar in position to the GFS with the 2 key features....the PV low and California low.

superjames1992
Canadian has the same big dog as the GFS. Destroys Atl. at hr 225! Strange event shown there. Looks like a Miller B or something. Really cold at the start with insane teens, then we lose the cold air at the end, but the storm is about over by that time. Super-CAD delivers, though. griteater
That is a frothing of the mouth, rabid big dog. LOL Indeed! Strange event shown there. Looks like a Miller B or something. Really cold at the start with insane teens, then we lose the cold air at the end, but the storm is about over by that time. Super-CAD delivers, though. Haven't seen it fully roll out, but did notice that it was a little quicker with the PV low compared to the UKMet and GFS, so the Miller B would make sense in that the sfc high would be a bit further to the east from a timing perspective
mackerel_sky
That's a big dog staring us down at 216. I like the looks of this one. Big 50/50 low setting up with HP all over the top. At 225 you've got it snowing from the panhandle of OK to the NC coast. Just like Jan 88! The cold and set up

mrdaddyman
Not to rain on the parade here because I want this to happen as much as anybody else but aren't these GOM storm systems the ones that are sometimes prone to kicking up storms along the Gulf that rob the Carolinas of moisture transport which drastically cuts down on our QPF? Stormsfury
I'm curious to see what Stormsfury has to say about the possibilities. Considering how off the guidance was with the last Several storms, i'm being quite reserved at this time. If that actually verifies, I'll have my own Cantore celebration. Aside from that, actually the pattern is looking quite conducive for a winter season finale. Personally, I do believe we will end the winter season with a bang before the pattern flips to a more spring-like pattern. We need to cash in before the change, and the next 7-10 days are likely our best chance all season.
Shawn
I'm curious to see what Stormsfury has to say about the possibilities. I love to see Stormsfury post. I feel like we are 100% out of it unless he is amped up about it. He has a great track-record... sadly I jinxed him recently saying something like "definitely winter precip down to chs" Then the 00z models came out 48 hrs before and screwed us both. The amped up nutty solution from the 18/00 GFS I doubt (too strong of a Low imo). The GGEM has quite an ice storm over this way.. and very close to you even. I don't see a way that whatever kind of system develops in the Gulf is able to cut though. There seems to be rare agreement between models that h500 won't let it happen (the cut). The fact that the upcoming week has that look of the players in place, maybe at the right time lends some credence to the overall synoptics. I will be following things closely and see how things unfold. If I feel good about the chances, i will sound the siren when i'm more certain. goldman75
Oh man this ones gonna be a roller coaster. 8-12 inches for Myrtle beach to all freezing rain. TropicalAnalystwx13
The 0z ECMWF has the Tuesday-Wednesday storm still. Looks like a mix of snow and ice across eastern North Carolina.
superjames1992
Amazing Euro run. It has the Tuesday system and the D9 system. The D9 system is a little S/E, but still a good hit for C/E NC. The D9 storm has amazing agreement for this stage with regards to timing. The Big three models are all in relative agreement.
burgertime
6z GFS is a southern slider and goes OTS...gives snow from AL to southeast NC...and about 3 inches to most of NC. At this points that's probably where we want it this far out. Like everyone said last night this is pretty awesome agreement....but I remember a few times this winter we had storms that far out and days in a row with agreement only at crunch time to have nothing so of course giant grain of salt all that. Misses most of NC, but trended N/wetter from 18z! On the 6z GFS and yes, Friday is exactly what we want right now! Next week will be rockin, with the appetizer this Sat! TiltedStorm
New member here. I enjoy reading everyone's interpretation of next weeks "big dog" I hear storms furry has a good rep as well as burger. One question for you all. Is the models worth a paid subscription to?
