January 26-28 Blizzard Observations/Nowcast

I was at 20" at 8 this morning, got to be closing in on 30.

Just did an 8 measurement average at 9 am and came up with 12.1". Temp 10°F with winds gusting over 40 mph. Snow rates of 2"-3" per hour. Blizzard verified here.

Whereabouts in Lowell are you, my parents in law live on the Dracut line near Christian Hill.  Trying to get an idea of what they may have.

Just hit 20 inches coastal York County.  Visibility under a quarter mile since 12 AM.

Snow has lightened up here. Visibility around 3/4-1 mi. Just did 6 measurements and came up with an average of 15.5" . Hoping I can get over 18" with the snow throughout the rest of the day, but not so sure if it keeps falling as lightly as it is right now. 19F/ 19. Winds have calmed down to around 14mph gusting less than 30.

fwiw RAP keeps the best (6-12" remainder of today) in what's left of the mid level frontogenesis band northeast-central MA down to CT-RI border

I should move. This is the second "blizzard" in a row where I was close enough to the state of Rhode Island to get into the screwzone. Overnight, for a good portion of the time, RI was the doughnut hole. I'm not sure how much I have right now...probably about a foot.

I saw on Twitter that they did I believe.

 

Now that the HRRR is back up an running.  Says the 495 belt gets another 12" from 8 am to the end.

Happens every storm. I think David Epstein makes the measurement (joke)

 

Have had more egregious underreports in the real big ones, Jan 2005 and the like

Usually Logan posts several inches below Boston Commons and surrounding community measurements, but it does match the nearby Winthrop measurements.

I'm new here so I am not sure when this post will be published, but as of 10 am here in Worcester MA in our parking lot in a secluded area shielded from wind, I measured 28 inches.

Starting to break up the solid snow shield....two distinct areas now...one from about ORH eastward and another in the Berkshires down to SW CT

Uncle in Somerville Ma says 19 incches OTG.   Got to be high right.  Wasnt logan only at 11.8 at 7 AM
