EasternLI
Still snowing here. What a band overnight, I'm towards the SE side of Riverhead, so I caught the east side of it as it moved west, and the west side as it shifted back east. stlirish
BUST , sure in regards to what was forecasted ( Def for those N and W the bust is quite EPIC ) , but if this was forecasted as 6 to 12 in the city and 12 to 18 on Long Island ALL from the GSP east would be saying wow this is a great storm . So from the City east it`s all how you chose to look at it . LGA may finish with 15 . Brooklyn probably gets to 12 . Monmouth county probably gets to12 Central Nassau probably gets to 20 Suffolk County could get to 30 The main issue was the historic forecasts. That set the table. Anything less than historic was going to be a bust. Unfortunately, it was well below historic for most of the area (outside of half of Long Island). If the forecast had been 6-12 city, 3-6 Jersey and 12+ LI it would have been a "fun" storm in a crappy winter. This only worked out for N/S here and 100 % of what BOX had in New England . $%^&*( happens . When the low gets tugged 75 miles east , so does your snow . Sucks but you cant change it . jm1220
Nassau could end up with 14-15" given the 12" reports already.
stlirish
I think it's doable. Trust me. That would be a big deal and would help "salvage" some of the public ridicule. The low end by many for NYC was a foot. I hope it happens Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
loadletterpaper
In RP my rigorous measurement by eyeballing really looks like only a foot. Of course with the winds, that's likely nonsense. For now, given the Upton and Miller Place numbers, I'll assume it could have been 15"-16". I have zero problem with the "bust". Nailing this forecast, even in the short range, was clearly going to involve a great deal of luck. Nowcasting and real time obs notwithstanding, I think the travel bans, transport shutdowns, etc. were not unreasonable. This was a no win situation for those who needed to make official calls/decisions.

I'd hoped it would go 2" an hour for 4 more hours and get us to 14-16" But in the end, heck of a learning experience in following a fascinating storm. Btw, thanks for all your input here. EasternLI
You did really well with that overnight band! You're not kidding!!! Going to be hard to beat that. Don't know if this tops the 27" total I saw in 2005 (I think?), but it's close. Certainly 2 feet. Dam near seasonal avg after this one

For the guys NW I know this is bitter $#R% pill to swallow . Trust me March 01 was worse . Expecting 30 - 40 and waking up to 4 .

LongBeachSurfFreak
I booked it out of manhattan as soon as the ridiculous travel ban was lifted. It was fun being the only vehicle on the road in mid town. People were trying to flag me down for rides! Way way more snow here in SE Nassau is say. 14" an ripping as good as it did at any point in the city. We have a shot at 20. Also looks more like a blizzard here with good drifting
