RU848789
Been ripping snow since about 1 am and we now have 2" of thick, but fluffy snow on the ground and it's down to 31F - over 1" per hour the past hour. Awesome snowball snow - just threw a bunch at random objects, lol. If that SPC report comes true, we'll get 1" per hour rates for the next couple of hours, before sleet and maybe rain mixes in. Would love to get to 3-4" before that happens. Love this statement from Upton: .NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/... SNOW OVERSPREADING AREA FROM SW TO NE OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS AND WILL BECOME MODERATE TO HEAVY AT TIMES. LATEST 00Z GUIDANCE SUPPORTS AROUND HALF TO THREE-QUARTERS OF AN INCH OF LIQUID THROUGH 8 AM. WHILE THE WARMER AIR MOVES IN ALOFT TOWARD DAYBREAK...IT COULD BE A BATTLE WITH STRONG UPPER FORCING. ITS NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION FOR 4 TO 6 INCHES OF SNOWFALL EVEN ALONG THE COAST BY DAYBREAK. TEMP PROFILES ARE MARGINAL SO CONFIDENCE IS NOT HIGH...BUT WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR DUAL POL RADAR DATA AND HIGH RES MODELS. Holy crap, it's pouring snow out there. 1.5" over the last hour and we're up to 3.5" here in Metuchen as of 3 am; still at 31F. 2 more hours of this and we'll get to 6". I know Mt. Holly updated their advisories, but they ought to be thinking about issuing warnings. One other cool thing: it's absolutely still out there, which is unusual for moderate/heavy snow - and it's fairly wet snow, so it's accumulated perfectly on every tree/branch, without the wind - simply gorgeous. Never changed to rain here in Metuchen - did it change in Avenel? That green blob is also gone, now, except for east of the Amboys.

green tube
That's it thank you. no problem. got about 4 inches here. just following posts in the philly forum and usawx, the line is crawling north. a lot of people switch over to sleet and rain only to switch back to snow. I don't think that was accurate. The mix line is just north of

There was a moment or two where I thought I heard some sleet. For the most part tho, it's been all snow.

viking70
NWS said 2-4 tonight, I am already up to 3.5. I would say over performing for tonight/morning. We'll see if it all turns to slush later. For right now it is amazing. Just dumping snow and so peaceful.
nyblizz44
did anyone notice NWS Upton has given up and is now calling for 4-6 inches on the front end?? Last hour all major reporting stations accumilated 2 inches ( CPK LGA JFK , actually the last at 1.5). Kew Gardens at 3.2 inches and snowing heavily for the last 30 minutes after dinking to Mod for about 15 minutes.
RU848789
If the progression of what appears to be the sleet line, from Trenton to Asbury Park, roughly, maintains its current pace, it would reach me in about an hour. We could have 6" by then! Where's my friggin' winter storm warning?! I just want to see my county in pink, lol.
Sn0waddict
Just drove home from a friends place, what an amazing night it is outside. The snow sticking on everything combined with the quietness that comes with a snowstorm just makes it feel so peaceful. Love it. 32.5 moderate snow. snywx
Philly just went to warnings for somerset/hunterdon north.... Sussex is in a warning as well. Upton should be pulling the trigger momentarily for its NW zones since many of us up here already have 3-4".
