Guest Pamela
Right around 3" of slop here before the changeover I measured 3.5 inches in Port Jeff prior to the unfortunate changeover...and have now seen 7.0 inches of snow this winter. Guest Pamela
Per early PNS from OKX: LGA 2.2 JFK 2.9 Nothing from the CPK yet EWR 3.6 Those are likely going to be final numbers for those stations. Maybe EWR picks up another tenth or two Newark Airport with 5.1 inches of snow as of this morning...

Guest Pamela
Earlier Central Park reported 2.5". There have been some problems with measurements there since the early 1970's; at least...even when the weather office was in Rockefeller Center...the totals reported out of the Park often seemed at variance with reality. JERSEYSNOWROB
Officially 4.5 inches of snow fell here in Marlboro, NJ Monmouth County before the compaction. My lawn shows 5.5 inches though but that doesnt count. Hahaha
jm1220
LGA now with 4.0 inches of snow...JFK with 3.4 inches of snow...so those would *not* be the final numbers for those stations. 2-4" for Long Island seemed to work out well. Looks like there were some 5" reports right on the North Shore.

Juliancolton
This stuff was a breeze to clear. Ratios for us up here must have been impressive SLR from a core sample I took earlier was just under 14:1, not bad at all. Perfect consistency as far as I'm concerned - light enough to beef up totals with the available liquid, but just wet enough to clean up nice and neat. Guidance made it clear yesterday. If you look at all the reports, most of NYC was in the 2 to 5 range. So I wouldn't quite call it a 3 to 6 event. Nick Gregory's 2 to 4 call worked out pretty well. RU848789
So, sleet started mixing in around 4:30 am and we now have 100% sleet at 5 am and we're at 32F. Final snowfall tally was 5.25", which is a huge win. Just stunningly gorgeous out there. And we have enough snow on the ground now that any rain that falls will be absorbed in the snowpack, rather than melting it - and when it all freezes tonight, we'll actually have more frozen mass than we have now, meaning the frozen slush will last longer than the snow we have now would have if it stopped right now. Glad I stayed up for all of the snow. Also, one comment about people thinking we only got, say 2-4" in most of Central Jersey, for example, which I've seen people on FB and other places saying. That's incorrect if you look at the NWS report below, where a general 4-6" fell in almost all of Central Jersey (say, north of 195 and south of 78, except right along the coast. 4-6" in most of Central Jersey means Upton did much better with I-95 corridor predictions, in particular, as they had 3-4" predicted from Rahway to NYC, while Mt. Holly had only 1-2" predicted from Woodbridge (town south of Rahway, which is the border for the offices) down to Trenton. Anyway, getting back to snow depths, the reason many people think a lot less fell is compaction. I measured 5.25" at my house at 5 am, when the snow had just changed to sleet. By 8 am the snow depth was about 3.5", due to compaction - nothing had melted, since any rain that fell was easily absorbed by the snowpack, but the sleet and rain definitely lead to compaction, so anyone measuring after about 6 am likely got a false low reading, unless it was still snowing there (like well N/W of I-95) It's why I think the meteorological community should report snow "mass" i.e., liquid equivalent, instead of snow depth, but I'm sure that won't happen, since it takes more time/skill, as one needs to melt a representative column depth down to get the mass. 10" of 20:1 ratio (20" of snow per 1" of liquid) snow is the same mass as 5" of 10:1 ratio (10" of snow per 1" of liquid) and, to me, they have the same impact, i.e., effort to shovel/plow, how long it takes to melt, etc., but the public looks at the 10" snowfall as a far bigger deal than the equivalent 5" snowfall. We'll see this contrast with the clipper on Monday/Tuesday, which will put down much "fluffier" snow at a 15-20:1 ratio, as opposed to the current storm which had a ratio of about 10:1 (until it compacted). Anyway, here are the NJ/NY/CT reports from the NWS. Still can't believe the 2.5" number at Central Park. There's simply no way that's correct, not with 3.4" at JFK, 4.0" at LGA and 5.1" at Newark. I know it's just another in a long line of poor measurements, but it's annoying. NEW JERSEY ...BURLINGTON COUNTY...
