i also wonder - in a situation like this where the nuclei is actually salt particles right off the ocean...if that hurts at all? is it possible it actually lowers the freezing temp even a tiny bit more?

regardless, there's also tons of salt and salt dust all over the place from the last few days.

Yes, that could easily make a difference...even if we're talking like 1F. Combine that with the midday insolation and you've got to get lower temps for FZDZ.

It's nothing I haven't seen before. It's a bright overcast with little wind and 28-29F. Classic case of roads being fine.

But the lack of ice on cars and railings is definitely a bit weird. I mean, there's no ice here on those...only a bit on the limbs.

I think Phil's higher concentration salt nuclei might be part of it, and the fact that we are midday insolation. Logan was 27F for most of the past few hours, so it's not like it was 30-31F.

I didn't notice the cars as the roads were salted, but my deck rails which face south are actually icy. But come to think of it, my car roof was liquid too. It could be the salt nuclei given the origins perhaps. My guess is that if this were night, it may be icy. It's kind of a bright overcast at times here with no room to wetbulb.

Yeah, I checked a railing and a metal fence when I was at lunch and was surprised they were just wet.  I'm over on Huntington at Northeastern.  I think the are where I checked is usually in shade at this time of day.
