jamesnichols89
Yeah great snow growth in that band. Multiple bands over east of the first band is not producing much here in Harwich, MA, we have partly sunny skies.

Harwich, MA of Cape Cod, MA is not a good place for OES on NNE wind. does better with NNW flow
jamesnichols89
True, true Phil, think we can get in on some inverted trough snows on Thursday or real storm synoptic scale snowfall?

jamesnichols89
We are getting a pretty heavy snow shower right now, not heavy squall per se, but a heavy snow shower.
CoastalWx
I bet someone near sandwich had over an inch now.
Clinch Leatherwood
I bet someone near sandwich had over an inch now. I'm getting crushed right now, like Tolland crushed. Nice to see it snow for a change!
CoastalWx
I'm getting crushed right now, like Tolland crushed. Nice to see it snow for a change! That's a nice band. This should be on and off for a couple of days. It wouldn't shock me for someone to get more than a few inches if bands align. Today is OES, but eventually winds shift NE and it's more of a cstl front convergence. However, inversion heights will lower so that limits instability, but someone may get lucky. I even have a shot as the cstl front moves west maybe tomorrow night, although this looks like more for typical OES spots in pym county.

CoastalWx
Do you guys think we see anything here? Maybe tomorrow? I'm not sure this will make it much past the canal by 5 miles or so. I suppose you could see some -SHSN though.

SR Airglow
Nice James, enjoy it! A good amount of the short range hi res guidance has some lighter stuff making it decently far back west, the NAM/RGEM/SREFS all have 0.5" or more from about BOS SE overnight tomorrow night. Worth keeping an eye on if folks are looking to whiten the ground.
CoastalWx
can oes really bury like lake effect? Not comparable, but it's helped enhance some totals for sure. Jan 2 of last year. Classic ones like feb '94 which helped dump near 30" just south of me, even December 20, 2008 helped enhance snow in this area. There's a lot of events where it more or less enhances by a few inches. ORH_wxman
can oes really bury like lake effect? No, the lack of land convergence hurts the ability for OES to line up in a large very organized band. So we typically see multiple less intense bands like we see on radar right now. That said, you can still get warning criteria from OES, though it is pretty rare. I recall a couple events giving around 6-8" in spots over the years. jamesnichols89
Yeah Will, I remember one event had 6" and cancelled school that day, this was back in grade school, so about 13-15 years ago, in the 90s. Anyways, bands are intensifying over the Bay, but over near me its weakened. Sun is back out with a dusting of snow on the ground.
jamesnichols89
New band developing over Eastham, MA, that should give me another period of snow as the bands progress westward before weakening later this morning into early afternoon. Impressed...windy as a mother too! Pretty good stuff right now in some of those bands Great bands - the snow is not well aligned with those bands however. IE, the snow extends a bit west of the bands on radar and the sun is out on the eastern side of the bands. Definitely some fun wind stuff going on with altitude.
