Was this taken on a lake? Seems like the matressing is caused by drainage of melt water through ice. example from little seneca lake, plus bonus pic taken two days ago at same spot.

It may have been on a lake but the same effect was all throughout Maryland.  There was 12" of snow on the ground, completely frozen ground underneath so when it was super warm and sunny a couple of days later, the snow melted from the top down but the meltwater ran off underneath the snow but on top of the frozen ice, creating the effect.

My pic was on land and yeah, it was like that everywhere. Do you think a layer of sleet/freezing rain glaze on top plays any role, or not really? It's a strange but cool effect.

Found this on bayphotosbydonna.com

Anyone who travels the Rt 50 area around Kent Narrows in the summer has surely see the nest this guy builds on the highway sign.

He arrived yesterday. It's SPRING!!!

Went to Blackwater NWR in Cambridge on Monday. Saw this osprey on the sign and the sign right after is there were 2 Ospreys and another nest!

I never saw an Osprey past Kent Narrows on Monday but per Facebook birding groups, they were spotted at Blackwater arriving on Tuesday.

My Mom and Dad always marked their calendar when the Ospreys can back in the spring. First one would come, and three days later the other. Always around St Patrick's day. On cuckold creek, up the Patuxant from

Solomon's Island..Now that Mom is gone, it's even more special for Dad. They are back...

That's a very nice remembrance and connection each year.
