powderfreak
Looks like -29F will do it for the low at MVL. Coldest reading since I've lived here.
tamarack
When it was -11 at 9 last night, I figured the winter's low of -24 was toast. Eight hours later the temp had dropped only to about -14/-15. Then it dived another 7-8F by 6:30, but I don't think it got colder than the -24. eekuasepinniW
-15.6 last night. Will definitely need to round that to -16 Coldest since 1/16/09 at -17.2 which is my pws station record. I believe the coldest since moving here in 1986 was the two nights of -20 in Jan 1994.

mahk_webstah
You caught up quick last night...-16.4F here. I had -27F in one of those '94 shots when I lived in Auburn. This might have gotten a lot of the peaches grown in SNH. -14 is the bad number, but some orchards are on hills so they avoid the worst cold. -17.2 at my house last night, although I was strolling in the 77 degree heat yesterday in Savannah....home on Sunday and think I may have timed that well for a couple more weeks of deep winter. When I was home for the last big storm I think the depth got to about 36 inches before sublimation. Did yours?

dendrite
As of 2/24 my monthly averages are 20.6/-1.2/9.7....pretty impressive considering my normal is about 32.0/13.5/22.8. If the month ended today the departures would be -11.4/-14.7/-13.1. My greatest departures since moving here are +8.5 in Mar '12 and -8.0 in Mar '14. dendrite
What's special about -14? http://www.michiganpeach.org/growbackyard.htmlThe peach tree is relatively susceptible to damage by cold temperatures. Temperatures of -13°F or lower will generally destroy most peach flower buds and temperatures lower than about -17°F will cause damage to limbs, trunks, and leaf buds. Trees can be damaged by rapid temperature drops following a period of mild weather in early fall or early spring.

eekuasepinniW
This level of sustained cold has the potential to rough up my saucer magnolias. The same magnolias that were mauled in the thanksgiving grid-destroyer snow.
